il2crashesnfails Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 Did they use the he111 for any low level bombing missions in ww2? Seems the tactic is frowned upon. I tried doing some low level bombing to hit a train. Can anyone tell me what I can do to actually hit it.
BubiHUN Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 (edited) Come on ? Level bombing depends on High altitude, not shaving the grass at 300 meters, and using the bombishgt to drop bombs accurately. Climb to at least 3,5 km, set the wing angle and strength, your altitude, your speed. Edited January 2, 2019 by -[HRAF]BubiHUN

I thought maybe you could just get low and follow the train tracks.
Thad Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 Yea, that's fine..... go for it. It's your plane. 1
SCG_Schneemann Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 Usually not bombing. The Eis groups that flew He111's had 20mm cannons in the nose and had the lower mod with cannons to shoot the trains. Most Eis groups flew the Ju88's, I believe.

SCG_Schneemann Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 I believe it is shortened from Eisenbahn, or railroad. Look under KG27, KG3 or KG51 or KG55... They were special, usually autonomous staffeln that were outfitted with 20mm guns, among other things, to disrupt train operations. They were designated 9.(Eis.)/KG3 for example... I found something about how some of the He111's had special altimeters that allowed them to fly about 20m above the ground without crashing. Sort of low, huge, packing a massive wallop with 8X 20mm cannons in the nose. Deadly in the right hands... 2
SOLIDKREATE Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 I don't see a 'Toro' or 'Craftsman' logo on the bird anywhere? Also, you dropped way, way to early. I wouldn't use the flaps either. Just come in hot at about 300~350 (this will keep you nice a stable) and never get below 200m (low level bombing). Set your bombs to 'Drop All'. Press 'V' and on the bottom right set the delay to 0.1sec. Take your fuse setting into account. I normally run 5sec fuses. You also make a whole bunch on corrections upsetting the plane. Line up first and do not upset the plane. You want it to be flat and smooth at the moment of drop. Think of bombing like sniping. Any little movement will drastically change the drop arc. So, 300kph is about 77m/s. If you are a good judge of distance in the game you'll have no problems. The train could be going about 100kph so 27m/s. Basically you want to drop all bombs as your nose passes the rear of the train. This will put the bomb impact just ahead of the train causing it to run right into a trap. Me personally, I push the 110 and A-20 a lot when I go bombing. Target are not hard for me to hit. In fact it is almost second nature, But I have been doing this since IL-2:1946. And doing it in here for 5yrs now. You will get there. It just takes practice, practice, practice. 1

Yeah, the flaps was a bad idea. I was close to a full stall. Thanks for advice about when to drop bombs. I didn't have a clue so i dropped early.
