SYN_Vander Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 (edited) A funny bit of WW2 trivia I came across while surfing for something else: http://www.vintagewings.ca/VintageNews/Stories/tabid/116/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/355/language/fr-FR/Wood-For-Wood.aspx Edited February 15, 2014 by SYN_Vander 1
Revvin Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 Nice bit of trivia but I have a hard time believing the allies would waste precious fuel and risk their airman's lives from the possibility of flak and attack from possible patrols just to make a point
DD_fruitbat Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 I wonder if there was a special branch of the RAF for these raids. Yew need to bear in mind there is a often grain of truth in poplar stories. Great story. Groan, you here all week? 1
Heliopause Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 It's also mentioned in Dutch book(s). During WWII a number of airfields in Holland had a decoy airfield nearby to fool enemy pilots. Planes like the Blenheim "bombed" these fields with wooden bomb(s). Maybe I can find something in the books that I have....
6./ZG26_Emil Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I sincerely hope they get to the root of this story. Wooden flak guns eh? Their bark will be worse that their bite that's for sure.
Feathered_IV Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Pity they never tried it with Mosquitoes. That wood have blown their minds.
Finkeren Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Reflected: I've meant to ask for a while: Your avatar, is that Ryoji from "Shin Seiki Evangelion"?
Finkeren Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) LOL sorry, Feathered. I used to mix up the two of you constantly on the RoF forum as well, I have no idea why. Best Anime series ever BTW. Edited February 20, 2014 by Finkeren
