Voyager Posted December 29, 2018 Posted December 29, 2018 I'm working on putting together a custom P-47 skin Sweetie y Raton, and I'm trying to find cartoons I can use for Sweetie and the Raton. While I'm still trying to nail down the Sweetie (and the alpha channels, and the paint scheme and the how to run etc etc etc.) I've tracked down the sort of Raton Vaquero I'm looking for: Raton Vaquero via Google but it's a google grab off of Pintrest, so I have no idea where it actually comes from or who might or might not be able to assert ownership over it. I think it was based on one from a cover from one of Francisco Gabilondo-Soler's records, but I don't know that really helps much. So, does anyone know of a royalty free version of the Cowboy Mouse that I could use? And what do people generally do when they're trying to track down a specific sort of image, that they can freely stick on their skins? Thank you, Harry Voyager
Uufflakke Posted December 29, 2018 Posted December 29, 2018 (edited) I would not worry too much about ownership and copyrights. I am not working for any legal department so my knowledge is basically zero but when it is for private use then there can't be that many objections. It would be different if commercial activities are involved like trying to sell your custom skin. Which is forbidden here anyway. And by the way, WWII flight simming is a niche in a niche. So hardly anyone will notice the use of these cartoons. For example, old IL2:1946 made use of the complete Dutch football team for their pilot's faces. Perhaps the dev team of IL2:1946 used a World Championship football poster for it. The Dutch football association KNVB never sued Oleg Maddox for it. Since it's a niche in a niche the KNVB never got aware of the illegal commercial use. In case of any doubt this might be the contact information page about licenses: http://www.licensingmexico.com/EN/licensing_catalog/gabsol__s_a__de_c_v_/el_raton_vaquero/ Edited December 29, 2018 by Uufflakke
Raptorattacker Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 ... and if you have ANY doubts about use then just grab the cartoon, open Photoshop and 'trace' your own version and BINGO!! I tend to agree with Uuff;akke though...
JG1_Vonrd Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 Kudos for being concerned about infringing on someone else's artwork Voyager. As a former artist I appreciate that. As stated above, since there is no monetary value involved in these skins I would not have any reluctance using pretty much any image available on the web. It wouldn't hurt to acknowledge the artist when you post your skin if you have any reservations. Still... I doubt there are many copyright lawyers flying this game and they would have to convince 777 to turn over your identity to them. Make your skin.

Dutch international football players Van Nistelrooij, Van Persie en Bergkamp in default IL2:1946.

Well, it is done, with more variants than I'd been planning... Enjoy. Also ended up doing some variants without the nose art for anyone who might be interested in the basic paint scheme, without someone else's personalisations.
