Nicob Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 (edited) I know the sim dosnt have the numbers probably to fill a 168 server if its technically possible, but anyone know why most multiplayer games are limited to 84? can you imagine a server with 200 players? Edited December 28, 2018 by Tes
LLv24_SukkaVR Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Because it struggles with 84 players already. 2
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 more ping latency the harder it is for the servers CPU process to keep up, now if we ever get quantum computing maby.
NETSCAPE Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 There a few innovative companies offering decentralized hosting. This means multiple servers handle the job at once and dynamically adapt and work/handle a load as needed. The tech is scaleable. It will be the future of multiplayer - think 100s or 1000s of AI or players on huge maps with many assets, first person shooters, mmos, you name it. I think it is really hard/time consuming and costly to develop this tech yourself for small to medium sized software company. Though I am not sure what the exact "fees" are for using such service. I'd drop a name on here but I am not sure if that is breaking some forum rule so I won't. I don't work for them. But I'm HIGHLY interested in the tech. 1
Ehret Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 If you divide available machine cycles of a single modern CPU and number of the current user limit (84) multiplied by supposed tick rate (60Hz?) you will get something like +500K cycles per user per tick... I'm not sure what an BoX server has to do but it looks the limitation lies elsewhere, imho.
SharpeXB Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Rise of Flight had a cool fly-in on Armistice Day. 80 some people all in formation. It was really epic until the server crashed. 1 2
Lusekofte Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Well the crash thing in the end kind of ruin the fun. I have been CTd some times during fnbf and they run smaller numbers on server. Better to keep low numbers than getting problems very frustrating experience being left out 1
CountZero Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 If there is no other objects exept human players i bet it would work with 200players, but what would they do
