Blitzen Posted December 26, 2018 Posted December 26, 2018 (edited) Just replaced Oculus with new Samsung HMD headset.Install of headset worked fine,BUT: 1.) Il-2 shows up on a screen within the "Home House" like a movie .It does not allow me to play the game normally or with VR.I get VR around the house but the il-2 screen is flat against the wall with the rest of that room in VR. 2.) I get 'Headset not detected' message on the onscreen icon for Steam VR.I've looked around "Settings" but haven't found a solution. The problems may be somehow linked? I need help. The only reason I got the new setup was to play this game & that remains elusive... Edited December 28, 2018 by Blitzen 1
Urra Posted December 26, 2018 Posted December 26, 2018 It seems like something to do with number 2., I dont have this headset, but I hope someone can help out. You have the tick mark for VR view set in game graphics settings menu? Also, you went through the calibration sequence in steam to set the height from the floor?
-332FG-Gordon200 Posted December 26, 2018 Posted December 26, 2018 (edited) 1. You need to install Windows Mixed Reality for Steam - https://store.steampowered.com/app/719950/Windows_Mixed_Reality_for_SteamVR/ I've found that I need to reboot my computer after making any changes in Steam before they will take effect. 2. Ignore the home house. When WMR opens simply minimize it to the tool tray. You don't need it. You also don't need the controllers. You can shift control of the mouse from headset to desktop by pressing Win+Y. 3. If you need to make adjustments to Odyssey on your PC open Windows Settings and you should find a group named Mixed Reality. In the sub folder Display click on the Advanced tab and make sure you are set to refresh rate of 90hz. Your audio and microphone will be switched to the headset when you are using it and back to your normal arrangement when idle by default. Now all you need do when you want to fly is hold your headset in front of you and open WMR. Your headset may need to acclimate itself to your 'environment' the first few times you use it. You'll need to look down at the floor then up and pan left & right. You'll get a prompt if that's necessary. Then start IL*2 - that's it. No sensors. No Oculus Tray Tool and two USB ports have been freed up in the bargain. Afterthought: I assume you have already uninstalled everything Oculus related. Edited December 26, 2018 by Gordon200 1

Would that really be necessary? If I were to say grab an Odyssey+ just for my flight sims, I certainly would not want to lose using my Rift for a lot of other games/experiences that I have. I would like for it to be available to me at all times. Edited December 26, 2018 by dburne

Probably not necessary but I thought it might interfere or compete with the Odyssey/WMR. The difference between Rift (which I previously owned) and Odyssey Plus is subtle. The ability to spot distant objects is similar in both headsets. As much as I want to say the near absence of screen door effect in Odyssey+ equals greater visual distance I can not. 1 hour ago, TunaEatsLion said: Also, you went through the calibration sequence in steam to set the height from the floor? Not necessary with Odyssey. When you first unbox and plug the headset in Windows Mixed Reality opens and asks if you intend to use it in a stationary manner or are you going to be running about in a play area. If you plan to slay dragons and such it will warn you about running to things and suggest boundaries. pffft Click on the stationary option and you are good to go.

SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 You do not need to uninstall Oculus, you can instead install Revive. Then create a batchfile on your desktop running on admin rights: Spoiler sc config OVRService start= demand net start "OVRService" if %errorlevel% == 2 net stop "OVRService" pause It toggles the OVRService off, so it doesn't update in the background anymore or wastes ressources. Toggle the OVRService off using this batch, install Revive, let it update, turn off Steam. Now the procedure: Start Steam. Start WMR. In Steam start "Windows Mixed Reality for Steam" Wait a bit and see the Oculus games popping up at the bottom of your library. This way you can play your Oculus games and start them from within Steam.?
dburne Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 If one has Oculus Tray Tool they can also turn the Oculus Service off with it.
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Good point. I'd rather not have that demon on my rig however. Back in the days it was interfering heavily with my Odyssey.
