Sternjaeger Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 (edited) ...what the heck is this?! Edited February 15, 2014 by Sternjaeger
MiloMorai Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 That has been discussed many times. Afaik no consensus was reached on what it was. Some of the ideas of what it was that I remember were: - smoke generator - for aerial refueling - cloud seeding for icing testing
Finkeren Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 It's a vise for keeping the fuselage halves together while the glue dries 1
DD_bongodriver Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 some amateur left the sprue on while assembling the kit. 2

AndyJWest Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 That? Butterfly Bombs - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butterfly_bomb
Sternjaeger Posted February 17, 2014 Author Posted February 17, 2014 Nasty indiscriminate things aren't all bombs?
Sternjaeger Posted February 17, 2014 Author Posted February 17, 2014 No very considerate bombs these ones, weren't they? 2
DD_bongodriver Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Are you upset because you are a fan of the butterfly bomb? or are you just trying to derail another thread in typical style?
Sternjaeger Posted February 17, 2014 Author Posted February 17, 2014 no, this is MY thread, it'd be kinda silly to derail it myself, you made a comment which I disagree on (I think it's ridiculous to think that not all bombs are nasty indiscriminate things), that's how we got here. Feel free to leave it here and go back to the original thread. If you have any idea on what that contraption is I'd be more than glad to hear your educated opinion. 1
DD_bongodriver Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 you disagree that butterfly bombs are indiscriminate?
Sternjaeger Posted February 17, 2014 Author Posted February 17, 2014 you disagree that butterfly bombs are indiscriminate? of course they are, but the point is that they're not more indiscriminate than any other conventional bomb. Again, if you want to discuss on the nature, morals and purpose of bombs I suggest you start a specific thread on it, so we can keep this one on topic.
FlatSpinMan Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 That many 'dumb' bombs and area bombing are indiscriminate is true, but there are precision guided jobs, for your more discerning bombardier. Even in WW2 there were some cases that, if not precisely guided in themselves, were at least delivered with good accuracy. Dam busters;the one that took out the Gestapo office - forget why completely.

Sternjaeger Posted February 17, 2014 Author Posted February 17, 2014 (edited) That was not collateral damage. the death of 1600+ between civilians and POWs? Seriously? Edited February 17, 2014 by Sternjaeger 2

II./JG27_Rich Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 (edited) There was a flying bomb that the Luftwaffe had like a remote control RC plane. You flew it from the bomber after it was dropped from the bomber. Edited February 19, 2014 by II./JG27_Rich
