When did the Smithsonian Institute change the name to Smithsonian Institution?

Am i losing my mind?  

I always known it as the Smithsonian Institute. Now everywhere it's shown as the "institution" not Institute. 

 

Same with the DEA. Now it's the drug enforcement "administration" and i always knew it as an "agency".

 

I'm not drunk yet, so what's going on?

Strange. Did i get it wrong all this time. The funny thing is i can still find a lot of places in online newspaper archives where it's called "institute".

Probably, that's just lazy journalism on their part.

Thanks. That doesn't make it any clearer. 

It took me only 40+ years to figure it out.

 

At least I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Not for being confused if it's Institute or Institution...but I think the fact that you actually made a Thread about it probably means the answer is Yes.
