New to Great Battles

Hey guys new to this game, but long time player of IL-2 series looking for advice, I was one who didn't mind the campaigns in the original IL-2s.  All I need is something to keep track of my kills and have a virtual squadron rack up kills and get shot down along side me while the front moves along.  The movement of the front doesn't have to have to be because of my actions so a dynamic campaign like Falcon 4.0 isn't necessary, but would be cool.  Now I want to dive into the battles series.

 

What battle has the better campaign or career?  Im confused on them as when I do a search it seems the IL series has been updated, and I don't really know which ones have, if they all have already, or what.  I mostly play single player so whatever battle you can steer me would be appreciated.  Thanks for all your help.

The career mode follows historically what happened in each map, Moscow, Stalingrad, and finally Kuban.  You can have the same pilot fly through all 3.  You can also switch squadrons on the map to fly different planes or to get closer to the front.  Kubans map is the best looking imo, but all of the maps are good.  Pick the pack with the planes you like the most and go from there!

I usually only do multiplayer or career so I cant speak on the campaigns but I'm sure there good.

Thanks!  I started with Stalingrad.  Have done a few flights but need to set up my Thrustmaster Warthog and trackIR for this game.

The great thing about the series is that the developers are keeping everything up to date. Back in March they launched the new Career mode with IL-2: Battle of Kuban but they retroactively added the mode to Moscow and Stalingrad too. It's pretty good and it definitely keeps track of the things you're looking for. It isn't what Falcon had but this is pretty decent at generating some interesting missions and keeping you flying mission to mission with your squadron.

If you want to go chronologically it is Moscow —> Stalingrad —> Kuban —> Bodenplatten. 

 

I started with Moscow because I sanded to start with the P-40, but your preferences may differ.

Thanks guys.  I got lucky and the day I got paid there is a sale.  So I picked up both Stalingrad and Moscow.  Nice to be back in the eastern skies.  After years of EAW and IL-2 I went to DCS and now back to the warbirds.  Such a great era to fly in and thanks to the developers for the amazing games.  Now to fix my Panzer Elite nostalgia, Im eyeing up that Tank Crew
