Bombs getting stuck in trees

Not filing bug report yet as I did not collect the recordings. My bombs no matter the weight get caught up in trees causing an airburst explosion instead of falling through to the ground. Also tree leaves are catching and causing cannon rounds to explode. Wondering if it is happening to anyone else and how bad is it?

I haven't seen or experienced this in my missions but I have noticed that intervening trees are intercepting and stopping tank rounds intended for enemy tanks.

 

This is not a bad thing. Trees 'should' provide such interference. Now, if they could block line of sight too. These changes are probably due to the advent of Tank Crew.

Most of the tress is just foliage though shouldn't do anything to a tank round or trip the HE fuze. Bombs should go through too unless they hit the trunk or a particularly heavy branch

I followed a bomb down and it hit and stuck and exploded in the top of the mast/tower of a boat. That was cool.

not only do trees seem to block bombs, they also block machine gun and -cannon fire.

 

I can't quite possibly imagine that this is intentional. if so: cool, can I have some armour for my plane made of that great wood?

Wasn't this added recently, in order to prevent AA gunners from shooting aircraft that they couldn't see? Maybe the bomb thing is a side effect of that?

 Yep. I have seen the same. Bombs stopped by trees and explode there. Quite hilarious to look at for a while but gets infuriating when trying to bombing something and a branch stops a bomb dead on it´s path..

yup, can confirm, I have witnessed such tree behavior in real life. If I through a rock it usually gets right thru the leaf but would bounce off the trunk/branch.

Depending on how a cannon round is fused it could be set off by a tree branch. It would have to be a substantial tree branch though, say an inch or 2 thick. That may provide the resistance needed to trip the fuse as it passes through. A bomb, though, even a smaller bomb, should go through. Depending on the size of the tree though it would slow down, or even be deflected in the case of smaller bombs. MG fire can be stopped by a tree, especially if the round is fired from a few hundred meter's range though this is more likely to happen with the smaller caliber rounds. Stopping a .50 BMG round with a tree is a bit of a trick unless that round is fired from a considerable distance.

 

I have seen cannon rounds and rockets detonate in the upper portion of trees and seen MG fire turned by trees in game and never been all that bothered by it. I always considered it to be within the realm of possibilities. I've not seen bombs effected by trees but I usually don't drop bombs so that they have to go through trees to hit target, too much risk of my running into the same tree and that would never do. I would expect a 250 Kg bomb traveling around 300 kph to make it out of the tree at the very least, though perhaps not on target. Even a 100 or 50 Kg bomb getting stuck in a tree at the speeds we are dealing with is a stretch.
