SharpeXB Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 “Virtual reality arcades were supposed to be one of the first, most convenient ways that expensive VR headgear would reach the masses — but IMAX, the highest-profile provider of VR arcades, has decided to throw in the towel.” https://www.theverge.com/2018/12/13/18139981/imax-virtual-reality-arcades-shut-down-write-off-los-angeles-bangkok-toronto
Feathered_IV Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 VR isn't really there yet. It will need to go through a couple more generations and I suspect won't really come into its own until it is a standalone piece of equipment..
Lusekofte Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 I agree Now I bought new rig. It will not be good enough to handle next gen of VR with its 1080 TI VR basically is priced GPU + VR= price. I really like VR in flight but I still get this odd focusing problem using it
dburne Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 VR shines in the in home experience. Out of home, not so much. Not going to be much repeat customers at arcades for VR.
SharpeXB Posted December 15, 2018 Author Posted December 15, 2018 We use it in my business (architecture) and it’s a pretty incredible communication tool. But it (Oculus Rift) is hampered by needing to connect it to a desktop PC. I know the new Star Wars Galxies at Disney World is planning this Stormtrooper shoot-out VR attraction. Wonder what will happen with that?

Of course it will not be for high end PC games like what we do, but is another rung on the VR ladder. There will undoubtedly be lots of games and experiences developed for it. I look forward to the next Rift also, which may come later in 2019. I am betting the third version if and when it ever does come, will be wireless or have a wireless option. Personally I think Oculus are positioning themselves well for the consumer VR market. Edited December 15, 2018 by dburne

Right but for presentations and such you’d want it to be mobile. We have Asus RoG laptops and the one running the Rift actually has an external GPU. The Hololens is pretty neat because it’s self contained and you can see other people while you use it.
