SCG_Hobo Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 A26 is a real hotrod of an airplane. Wish it was more popular in flight sims.

Dutchvdm Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 (edited) I'm i the only one who thinks it's pretty cheap?.. I can't afford it, but compared to most really expensive cars it's not that much actually. Keeping it running will be another story i guess. EDIT: Yes it is very cheap. Compared it to the rest of the collection, and the Spitfire and fake09 are almost 10 times as expensive. The corsair is a whopping 4M. Grt M Edited December 12, 2018 by I./ZG1_Dutchvdm
Feathered_IV Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 I wish I’d bought those three Me-109s from the UK that were accidentally listed as Buy it Now for $1 on eBay Australia a couple of months ago.

Bremspropeller Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 Hmm, buy a brand new SR-22 Turbo for 800k or that bada$$ A-26 for less than half and have some money left to burn on gas. Insurance (and DOCs) must be a killer, though. Chose wisely...

I fear antique vehicles that cost about as much as getting all required fluid in there for flight. I‘m sure „just a little“ service is required shortly. Another thing punters often forget is that „nice overhaul that puts it in perfect condition“ can never be added to the asking price. This sets the incentive for whatever used vehicle you are buying. I‘m sure it would be a different offer if you went to them and asked them to put it in a state where it is good for another 5000 hours.
Feathered_IV Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 But who would want to fly an A-26 over Canada of all places?? It's like flying a MiG-21 over Nevada, or a Huey over Normandy in 1944...

Not sure if any owner flies their warbird more than a three-digit amount of hours. It's just too expensive. Generally a good thought, though. You can own a lot of "Ted R. Smith designed" airplane for considerably less. Two hot candidates would be the Aero Commander/ Shrike or the Aerostar. 3 hours ago, Feathered_IV said: But who would want to fly an A-26 over Canada of all places?? =gRiJ=Roman- Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 Sorry, too expensive for my pocket ....
Bremspropeller Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 (edited) Once you know about it, the Aero Commander / Shrike 500 series looks familiar to an A-20 connaisseur... Bob Hoover did a thing or two with this great little airplane. The TPE 331 direct drive turboprop powered 680/ 690 is a pretty sick performer With the big motors (-10), I'll go 300KTAS. Now, the other Ted Smith post-war design of huge fame is the Aerostar - that design pretty much speaks for itself: Anoher great designer working on the A-20 and A-26 was Ed Heinemann. Well, obviously two great minds working on those two mid-size bombers and no wonder they turned out to be great. Edited December 13, 2018 by Bremspropeller
