Pilot head position and gunsight/cockpit view zoom???

Recommended Posts

So every once in a while I find a plane that had it's pilot's head view position not where the rest of the planes are.  Spad, FW A8, IL2s come to mind.  Usually I have some keys mapped that give me three zoom levels as well...wide, closer to panel, and gunsight.  On the planes that have issues mentioned above, once I get the head position corrected, the three zoom positions no longer work, I am left with the gunsight and "closer to panel" view, and I cannot seem to correct it, no matter how many times I re set the view and save with F10.

Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Are you referring to head z axis (forward and backward) the FOV slider (zoom) as one entity? Because those are two different things

Honestly since there is no real manual for the sim I have no idea of what the various things are called or do.  I know that for most of the planes they work as I expect but some don't.

I have three vision positions mapped to my joystick.  One is the very close gun sight view,  one all the way back in the cockpit, and one about half way, also have one that just goes to the instrument panel view.  I have looked at the "head position" and "camera" key binding pages in the setup, but it makes as much sense as Sanskrit does to an English speaker.

In the 190 A8, for example I can only manage to set a very close gun sight view, and a full back in the cockpit view, but not the middle one, like I have on most of the other fighters.

The "vision positions" you have mapped to your joystick are known as 'Snapviews'.   I'm pretty sure that these things actually are described in the BoS manual.  These views are set in the same way as the default one, except that you have to hold the button you've mapped to the snapview down, while you are adjusting it, and while you save it.  You save it the same way you do the default view, by hitting F-10.****

****(Also know that in the LuaScripts/Snapviews directory, you will have a text file for each aircraft.  It is possible to cut and paste views from one file to another.  For example, when I first got the A8, the first thing I did was open up the views file for the A5, and cut and paste the Eyepoints and Zoom parameters from the A5 to the A8. )

Thanks SeaSerpent.  Much appreciated.

Wait, you mean that document that I spent weeks writing isn't a "real manual"? Yeah, it's not been updated lately, but you still could have found your answer in it.

Is there a good place to find it again? The last time I tried to download it after losing it in a computer crash, the link I had previously used was broken.

What RedKestrel said,  DL link is dead.  Not dissing your effort LukeFF.

Oh, I tried the things you suggested SeaSerpent.   The A5 files put the seat too low, and I still cannot get more than 2 snap positions to "take".   Also now I cannot even get a good gun sight view anymore.  I'll try it again later when I am less likely to hit the uninstall button out of frustration.

Well, you're right, the origin in the 3D model must be a little different in the A8 than it is the other Focke-Wulfs, and doing that does put it too low.   I guess I did that for A3 to A5, but not for the A8, so my apolgies for that misinformation.  Even so, it shouldn't be too hard to use the built in head controls and get yourself situated in a good position behind the reticle, and with a good view of the primary instruments.  As for the snapviews, all I can advise you is to try again and that you really have to HOLD that button or keypress assigned to the snapview you want to alter down through the whole process, or you'll just end up mucking up the default view.  If that doesn't work, then I don't know what else to tell you, because I am pretty sure that's the correct procedure to set those.

Just so you know, in the LuaScripts/Snapviews directory, you'll find a subdirectory called 'default'.  If you totally F up a view on that plane, you can either just delete the associated snapview file and allow it to regenerate back to default, or you can copy if from the default directory back with the rest of them.

Yeah, I used the default to "reset" things.  I have gotten a usable coupe of snap positions so all is not lost.  Still cannot figure out why I can only get 2 on this aircraft, but I'll keep after it.

Thanks for the help.
