hi am flying for the next 3 hours, at minimum, in a camel in Berloga dogfight and duel multiplayer server Flying Circus Dogfight zone. all welcome to come shoot me down. ?

I have no problem admitting that, or in admiring your skill. 

 

I was constantly on the defensive.

 

Perhaps, when the SE5a gets here, I can enlist six other players and we can re-enact a certain engagement from the 23rd September 1917......

 

I meant to ask last night, do you use head tracking or VR?

 

I was struggling on a couple of occasions to keep you in sight, particularly when you used the vertical axis, using the hat switch on my stick.

 

I'm retired, on a disability pension, so I have struggled to justify a VR set's cost, but, on the assumption that FC is here to stay - and 1CGS needs to come up with some dedicated WW1 topography and a few more aircraft fairly quickly now, if that is to be the case, I think - I will certainly keep playing ( and hopefully becoming less of a target drone in the process!) and I am seriously considering whether it would make a difference in such scenarios, in which case I can eat less for a couple of weeks and make the purchase.

 

I could always walk the streets I suppose, but I'd be a very niche product.....

I couldn't stop myself for a few minutes today from playing Final Countdown on Berloga.  I took a 190 over to the Flying Circus area, and found some poor slob in a Camel.  I didn't open fire on him or anything douchebaggy like that, but I made 5 or 6 mock attacks on him.  He seemed like a good sport, whoever he was, because he didn't fire at me (or maybe I was just a dot to him in the sky by the time he would come around).  I honestly don't know if he was doing evasive manuevers or not, or just flying around as he would be anyway, because when you are screaming down on a stringbag plane at 400 knots, it's like he's standing still, maybe requiring a couple degrees adjustment to the left, or a couple to the right to line up for the simulated shot.  Amazing to me the advancement between WW1 tech and WW2 tech .

Funny, I flew a Spad over to the WW2 bit the other week (since there was nothing to do in the ww1 area).

Some bastard in a 109 shot me down (at least I think it was a 109..).

I understand the USAF lost two F-94 jet aircraft whilst engaging PO2 biplanes over Korea, one stalled out and crashed trying to engage, the other one is presumed to have hit the wreckage of the ( ex ) PO2 in the course of shooting it down. 

 

I remember reading a Clive Cussler novel back in the '70s involving a dog fight between a Catalina and, I think, an Albatros DVa. I think the book was called 'Mayday', but don't quote me on that.

Nah just a bit less fuel and the Camel will simply destroy all, it has more power, more speed, lateral stability, pronounced adverse yaw at full elevator deflection = easy to predict the flip.
Your skill at turning even with full tank was IMO superior, just bad luck with the fuel that lowered the limit and dragged it down, the DR.1 with 100% fuel is 71 liters, the Camel with 100% fuel is 168 liters.
That means that at 50% fuel you still would have had more fuel weight than a topped up DR.1.
Camel works great with 20-40% fuel, and in the end that's what pulled you down when it mattered.

It's not so much my skill as it is teachings of WW1 sim pilots almost 15 years ago, back in the days of Red Baron 3D, a time when, frankly, all that nonsense about balancing wasn't even invented yet, back then the plane FM's were modded to fly what most historical accounts agreed on, plus minus some adjustments, and from there it was about using what your plane was good at vs your opponent planes weak points, first one to lose concentration or bet too much on a move = Good night Marie.
In other words, tactics and marksmanship, nobody gave a rats behind about balancing ?

I am very much looking forward to the SE5a, such a nice stable gun platform, very fast, great in a dive, good for turns too (better than the current RoF flight model portrays) great at simply rolling back on even keel at the top of a vertical climb (not so much in RoF after the dreaded Dec-14 FM).
On that note, the SE5a release will be the make or break moment of FC:
Balancing = I have Call of Duty, and I'll only be using TrackIR anyway so might as well stick with RoF, in other words no further investments from me.
Let players virtually fight it out with what's as close as can feasibly be (considering time, effort and resource limitation) to what they had to fight with back then = Simulator, where do I put my money?   

Anyway, as for headtracking I tried the HTC Vive at a friends place but that stuff screws with my head, I don't know what other people are seeing inside a VR headset but for me it's rays of different colors and an insane fish-eye view that nearly popped my eyes out of the sockets and indescribable sharp pain for hours afterwards ?  
Also I wear glasses, and the glasses I use do not fit inside the VR headset.
So I'm using a TrackIR5.

Rather than VR I'm waiting for the FFB Joystick patent to run out next year, chances are there's going to be some pretty nice, but burgois/boutique priced hardware released (but cheaper than FFB stuff sold under the current patent).


Just save the VR money piecemeal.
All the people-made stuff that's invented to keep you coming back and eat away at your economy (you'll be shocked when you do the math) = cut them off, unsubscribe from useless stuff, no Youtube donations, use the TV as little as possible, don't leave the lights on when you don't use them, don't leave the hot water running and so forth, just sensible home economics, you'll seriously save hundreds of dollars every month.
Make it a goal to afford VR in 4-5 months (when FC-1 will be nearly finished) with money saved on things you don't use.
That way you can drink your favorite coffee and eat your favorite steak, but still get the VR headset you want  
I also recommend trying out all the VR headsets any way you can, before you commit!

Guys, is it easy to create another profile for multiplayer? I'm thinking about creating a profile SeaW0lf_FC so that anyone checking the barans.ru website knows that I'm over at Berloga flying a crate on the FC zone.

 

What do you guys think? At least for now this is a way to tell that you are there. Whenever I go to Berloga, there is no way to know who is flying where. I mean, after a couple minutes we see that the zone is empty, but we never know. And it is good to see someone flying FC before you login (basically what happens in ROF).

vr only works on long distance, as I have vemo prescription inserts for vive, I have short and long perscrition, and when I got inserts it said only put in long distance perscrition. I will fly be up in a bit
