=STP=Darrylx444 Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 I am trying to host a non-dedicated server for a few hours so a small group of friends (5?) and I can mess around / teach newbs how to fly etc. I have no idea how to create mp missions yet, but I have lots of pre-made ones to use anyway. I assume dserver is not necessary for this. So I select multiplayer/dogfight and then click on the "Create Server" button, and pick an existing mission in the dogfight directory. The server starts up, and I can fly around in it fine. But if anybody else tries to join, their game hangs forever or crashes to desktop. Every time. My ports are forwarded, my antivirus/firewall is off, to my knowledge everything is correct as I have done this for other (non-IL2) games before. I kindly request the wisdom of my fellow flight sim community.
JimTM Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 (edited) I'm not sure if it matters re. starting a server from IL-2, but have a look in your mission's .list file. Are the entries pointing to the same folder from which you chose the mission to run? I don't think these matter, but you could also confirm the following: You selected "Available from internet" You forwarded 28000 TCP, 28000 UDP, and 28100 UDP This post deals with the same problem but it's for a DServer host. =STP=Darrylx444 Posted December 6, 2018 Author Posted December 6, 2018 Hi JimTM, Thanks for the reply and advice. I did previously check the list files on a few different missions I had tried and they had correct paths. The missions I think came from servers that I had joined in the past I think. And yes I had tried the other things you mentioned too. I will try opening and re-saving using mission editor maybe next.....
-TBC-AeroAce Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 I managed to host a server directly through the game. I have forwarded 28000, 28100, 80 and 443 all UDP + TCP. It took me a while to get it sorted! My problem was that it turned out the Windows Firewall was corrupted. I had to fix that and then it works with the Firewall on or off. Some things I learnt: - Do not use a browser based system to check the ports are open as they are not consistent. -Anti virus may block the ports. -Windows Firewall needs to be working correctly. -Even when running the server it is very fragile. As a host you do not want to do things changing view and chatting a lot as it will crash.
