chiliwili69 Posted December 4, 2018 Posted December 4, 2018 Here we have the new beast: https://www.roadtovr.com/nvidia-announces-flagship-gpu-titan-rtx-virtualink-connector/ I believe those tensor can be used for some graphics processing techniques, but deep learning field goes well beyond that. So, they are producing a graphic card for non-graphics tasks!!?? Are they increasing the price for things that a gamer is not going to use. What I am missing here?

That it is not a card for gamers, but a card that gamers *will buy*, as it is the fastest. Just marginally so, but it slaps anoher ~15% on the 2080 Ti's performance. At twice the price, yes.

What I am missing here? nVidia tries to differentiate and become something more than just a graphic chips provider. They know there is big enough number of hardcore hardware junkies who will buy the most expensive (and fastest) stuff and help funding the company's scientific research. A_radek Posted December 4, 2018 Posted December 4, 2018 (edited) 'Gaming' gpu's have become so powerful they are growing in popularity in other areas as well. One of those being visual effects. Compared to calculating on a cpu it's like outsourcing tedious tasks to india. At work we are now switching from cpu to gpu rendering and building a Gpu based render-farm. I suppose that makes us a target audience for these titans. Still going for the 2080ti's though as they are currently more bang for the buck. Even when you have to consider buying a new rig/software licenses for every 4x cards. Edited December 4, 2018 by SvAF/F16_radek
JonRedcorn Posted December 4, 2018 Posted December 4, 2018 We just have to wait for dburne to buy one. 3
