Velikie Luki Map in PWCG

sevenless mentioned incorporation of the Velikie Luki  map into PWCG.  Thinking about it but not sure how it fits with the construction.  Biggest problem is that the battle is concurrent with other battles.  Maybe totally different units?

Discussion?

Don't know about the actual battle at all but it could be a great point for newcomers at PWCG. Not a big map and I also think not many units.

Hi,

I think with integration of that Velikie Luki map and perhaps the Green Moscow map by May-Bug and Winter Kuban by Gallahad you could expand the timeline, add some green map and also have two parallel winter battles going on. One in the north around Velikie Luki and the other in the south around Stalingrad.

Idea of a Timeline could be (roughly):

Summer 1941 - BoM map (green Moscow by May-Bug)

Fall 1941 - BoM map (fall)

Winter 1941/42 - BoM map (white)

Spring 1942 - BoM map (green Moscow by May-Bug)

Summer/Fall 1942 - BoS map

Winter A 1942/1943 - Velikie Luki map

Winter B 1942/1943 - BoS map

Spring 1943 - BoK map

Summer/Fall 1943 - BoK map

Winter 1943 - BoK map (Winter Kuban by Gallahad)

You could make two unit groups. Group A and B. Every unit would follow the maps and in Winter 42/43 Group A would fight on Velikie map and Group B on Stalingrad map.

It is a great idea

It would be a historical playground for the Fw190A3 !

Indeed, I don't understand your point about "different units" ?

I mean it would be nice to have the historical units and planes available over Velikie Luki  map to play a campaign over Velikie Luki.

Adding units to make a career flow between maps was complicated.  Not as simple as RoF where I had the whole front to play with and could pretty much add any unit.  It would just take a bit of work to make this happen.

I understand.

I am not really concerned by a career flow between maps because none of my pilots lived long enough :)

But anyway, I would take any "new map career"

Perhaps some of the existing units could take a little vacation over to vluki for the battle there?

That´s what I was thinking of. By example I./JG51 (Fw 190 A3) was never in action near Stalingrad, but in the timeframe winter 42/43 flew from Velikie Luki and near Rzhev.

Hi,

I have understood there is Velikiye Luki summer map available now, so there could be a small summer Barbarossa campaign from July till September before Moscow map? Wikipedia: The German army took Velikiye Luki on 19 July 1941, but was forced to retreat the next day due to Soviet counter-attacks.A new attack was launched in late August, and the city was recaptured on Aug. 26

That would be interesting to fly more longer the early planes since the Moscow map start rather late in 41.

That would be the plan, with I/JG51 being the prime candidate

Hi! Why don't you make a somewhat fictional campaign for the veluki map? It's basically a playground centered around a big and beautiful railyard.  I'd love to have a campaign that just makes a somewhat balanced start and then you can go to town. It's small enough of a map that really good performance (read: infinite ammo haha) could make a material difference to the way the battle goes.  That would be super cool. And just include all the planes that would make the battle fun!

PS I Love the map and I love PWCG so great idea to include it in PWCG :)

If in fact you decide to include Velikiye Luki (July 16 - August 27, 1941) in your career, then from the side of the USSR, the following took part in the battles:

Fighters:
1.part of the 11th Fighter Aviation Regiment (5 crews) - flew the Yak-1
2.29th Fighter Aviation Regiment - flew I-16
3. In July 1941 - the 198th Fighter Aviation Regiment - flew on UT-1 and I-16 (type 15), from August 1 transferred to another sector of the front.
4. In July 1941 - the 199th Fighter Aviation Regiment - flew on MiG-3 and I-153, from August 1 it was transferred to another sector of the front.

Bombers:
1. (from August 1941) 37th high-speed bomber aviation regiment - flew on SB

And in addition - the location of the front line.

By August 28, all the airfields on the map had already been captured by the Germans.

Bump.

This is the best map in IL2 series, hope can be integrated into PWCG some day.

The VL map is really great looking and imo its always been a bit of a shame that its not used in much content. I'd love to see it in PWCG!

I'd also love to see the Winter Kuban map mod included, though I understand the hesitation of wanting to use modded maps

Velikie Luki is a jewel, I wish all maps received the same amount of care.

Please bring it to PWCG, Pat!
