I'm looking at that - but reviews seem conflicting so far

I am currently playing "Alien - Isolation".

Just WOW! I cannot play it for too long (despite the urge just to see what's around the corner) because it would be nerve-wrecking. The mood is really dense and my hand on the mouse is all sweaty. And I play on easy mode. The AI is also pretty well done and the setting is just so superbly modeled. It's stunningly well put on scene with all that we've seen on the alien movies.

The only two minus I would give this game is that the control is something one needs to get used to (and no key table to look up key bindings) and the navigation through the different levels of the map is a bit confusing (the map is comparatively huge and with all the sidewalks and staircases and elevators it gets quick confusing but I think that is probably ok for the game story).

A part from these minor things an excellent game that really manages to create a sensation of constant adrenaline level (due to always being on a state of alert) despite the fact it is no action game but a sneak game.

On the hard drive right now:

Elder Scrolls Skyrim with a ton of mods

Mass Effect 3 - the best storyline and characters in a space action game so far

Medieval II Total War - the Welsh actually get to defeat and take over England :)

Shogun II Total War

Combat Mission - Red Thunder

Theatre of War 2 - Kursk 1943

At the moment wasting my time through Wasteland 2. Yep. Worth every cent.

Have a multitude of wargames and grand strategy titles, special note to Scourge of War ( simply put, total war title is the arcade mode where SoW is the expert ).

Elite: Dangerous been relegated for a while given the issues with grouping and instance desynch but also time spent there is well well well worth it.

DayZ SA. Is coming up a very good game, still a long time of development to go but very unique experience. Nothing like it.

ArmAs. Yep. Totally worth it. Very eager to see the future experience given they are enhancing the choppers need for sim. Nothing like having proper dedicated pilots in a squad / server and not some curious chap that somehow kills an entire squad.

Waiting for the 22nd October for the alpha of Deliverance Kingdom Come.

Just upgraded my rig too, Skyrim is going to get a new game started with oodles of mods, like the look of Alien Isolation....how it missed my radar I don't know.

Skyrim is on permanent standby: who needs internet porn when you can design your own katana wielding uniformed schoolgirl?  (Lore friendly builds are also good). Fantastic example of how a mod-friendly game with a decent base and many degrees of freedom can become an outstanding toy once the modders have got their teeth into it.

There is also nothing like spending 10 minutes in a Chinook with 15-20 other players on TS, moving to a flanking position against some AI position, only to have the entire thing crash on landing.

I've revisited Skyrim after a four year break. I decided to get back into it since I now have a PC that can bump up the settings to max and so I can mess around with graphical fidelity and enhancement mods.

I have created a Mod Collection on the Steam Workshop which has 135 (at last count) working compatible mods which do make quite a difference overall. *not big breasts and fetish armour*

Also look into installing ENB, it's like a more advanced sweetfx (on steroids really). AFAIK it can't be installed via steam workshop, needs manual install.

+1 on banished. It does seem quite rudimentary at first, but as a city builder made by a 1 man team it is somewhat awesome. The charm of Banished is in the play balancing, which is some of the best I have found in a city builder. Decisions you make are meaningful in a way that most games of the type don't nail. It is a bit slow paced - a zen game - but if you like the genre you will get your money's worth out of it.

Combat mission games are excellent indies. The simultaneous tbs/rts hybrid system is pretty unique and the gameplay deep. (You can play them straight RTS but I think you lose something by doing so.) AI is very good, which is what you want with that kind of game so you don't have to micromanage too much. Invisible simulation of battlefield communication adds a lot to the depth. They can look a bit dated, but gameplay is so solid that you soon forget. Great immersion. Wargame series also recommended if you like them.

ARMA3 is great i just don't have te nerve to play shooters though I like them. GTA IV rules... didn't play V but i will.

DayZ SA and Wolfenstein:TNE at the moment (more like in last month...)

I keep all parts of F.E.A.R and play one every so often. Same with Heroes 2 and Civilisation (DOS one).

New Vegas is only sandbox RPG I revisit. I keep Skyrim so I don't have to re-install all the mods I have, but can't bother to play it. maybe if I stared another char...

Re: Combat Mission Red Thunder 3bn_pavig said it all really - lots of depth through the command system and tactical strategy, good historical detail, plenty of replay potential. Try the demo first and see if you like it.

Dunno about evil within:

I currently put Alien Isolation aside because it's just too nerve wrecking and prone to give me nightmares... really tense.

Same, Alien Isolation is a game where I'm happy to watch other people's LP videos. And even then, it's bad.

I loved to play Arma 2 and 3... really loved what all the mods could accomplish.

Skyrim, one of  my favourite games of all time with its magnificent landscapes and music.

Fallout, just for its peculiar post-apocalyptic atmosphere.

Bioshock 1, 2 and Infinite for its incredible writing and masterful story-telling.

Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3 for its engaging characters and choice-driven story.

I liked Warcraft III, Diablo II and Starcraft I and II. Blizzard had awesome cinematics and a brilliant art direction. Very good replayability too.

Oh, and the total war series too. I played Rome Total War to death when it came out and I have very fond memories of it. It's the kind of game where you get a drunk, no-good general and make him become the finest general the world has ever seen with a bunch of crude recruits that become hardened veterans once you're done conquering vast lands. I remember growing attached to certain regiments and certain generals because they faced so many hardships... and yet still prevailed because of my sound battle plans. :)

Alien Isolation it is. I love the 2 first movies. And for the first time you see a really polished game. The developer has taken time to make it right, great graphics with fluid performance and adjustable options(pun intended ;) )

And the mame and the ps2 emu contains a LOT of good old (in mames case pixelated) fighting games.. Motogp14 .. I think steam says I played it 3 hours.. and that was even a pre-purchase.. worst bike game/sim ever in it's current state!
Think I have 400 steam hours in King of fighters XIII.. but now have forgotten all the combos, as I took a break :(
Only FPS games played are the bioshock series, minus the second, that I didn't like. And they are now uninstalled.
Spintires is mind-numbingly.. fun in it's own boring way.

I enjoy playing online season in Fifa 15 recently, it's really tough out there with some guys just hammering me but I do win sometimes :).

I got it for €38 which is almost fair price , €30 would be more like it. What I like about football games is that at least I don't go to Fifa forums to read people complain about goalposts physiscs or ball's FM. I just play it and enjoy it for what it is.

I still can't watch Alien 1 (even the rifftrax version!) since I watched it when I were too young aliens 2 is nice.. the rest .. nahh, not good and not scary. I can hardly play any alien vs predator game as a marine, since it freaks me out totally even when heavily armed!
As a predator I do fine thou, I even got myself my own (unofficially) trademarked Predator hairdo. Would never be able to play isolation!!

Bought outlast and it's DLC for my 65 year old mom, since she claimed that no game can be scary, and it were on summer sale. She just giggled at it, and were a bit frustrated that she had such a bad sense of direction, as I inherited from her.

Alien - Isolation is intense, to be modest. Cheebus that creepy feeling all the time as you do not know where that Alien lurks or when in the game it will appear  :o: And the graphics are simply stunning..and run very smooth maxed out  Sure just got to Sevastopol and already scaring my self senseless on every creak and hiss  Highly recommended if you liked the movie.

Stalker Call of Pripyat with the misery 2.1Beta installed.

There is no game even coming close to this.

Is this game similar to Far Cry 3? Because I loved that game due to it being open world. I also see it's only $20 USD on Steam.

Haven't played Far Cry series, but if you like open world FPS, then Stalker series is a masterpiece. A bleak combination of shooter against other humans and survival horror against mutants. These are themes which have been done to death, but Stalker series got the post-apocalyptic atmosphere just perfect. I haven't played through CoP (the last in the series) but from all reports it is absolutely brilliant, and delivers on some of the promises they had to curtail in the original (such as artificial life system etc.) With Misery mod (or one of several others) it almost becomes a mil-sim. Years before Day-Z and many of the other postapocalyptic open world survival games Stalker did it. Actually... thanks for reminding me. Gonna go play Call of Pripyat now. :)

Today was release Legend of Grimrock II. I suppose that should be nice like the first title of the series.

Someone knows or play the first?

Posted (edited)

Really enjoyed The Legend of Grimrock.  A modern take on the old style of dungeon crawler.  Wasn't expecting to take to it as much as I did, but played it through and was truly entertained.

Currently downloading Grimrock2 from gog as we speak :)

Edit: hah, savinio.  I didn't even read your post before adding mine.  Timely or what?  :salute:

+1 for Legend of Grimrock. Nice looking version of ye olde fake 3D first person dungeon crawlers. (Though the graphics are true 3D the movement is cube based a la Wizardry and it's kin.)

Wait until you progress further. The beginning at the Sevastopol is funpark compared to later.

Anyhow I am glad you like it!

I for my part will still take a small break from ai until I return from holidays. I hope my nerves will have recharged till then to continue my visits to each locker at the Jupiter station :D
