O_Smiladon Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I really hope that they spend some time on the sound.. the sound of that whine of the superdharger in the 109 is just pure joy to me as with the Merlin, Maybe as the build of the game progresses rhey might relaese little sound bites.. But not jut in engine noise but in aircraft noise, and wind and so fourth O_Smiladon
kestrel79 Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Didn't they hire the RoF sound guy to redo the Cliffs of Dover sounds? Those turned out really good, so I have faith this new project will be no different. RoF sound is pretty good too. Love the wind rushing by you sound when you lean out from behind the windscreen. Very immersive.
Feuerfalke Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 IMHO sounds are as important as graphics are in terms of immersion. I'm not worried, though. RoF sounds great and CloD was on a good way.

Yes i agree with you. every engine had its own note and thats what i hope for, is that note screaming past me on a low fly by :D And flame out of the exhaut systems is another thing which I hope they will look at.. You can see the performance of the engine by the colour of the flame. Adding to the immersion factor. O_Smiladon
Bearcat Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 IMHO sounds are as important as graphics are in terms of immersion. Yes.. Look at the sounds in WoP.. One thing I did like about WoP was the skins.. For the P-51 WoP basically used what looked like a IL2 Mustang skin but it hads an alpha layer so the reflections were there..
=BKHZ=Furbs Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 One of the features that im not worried is sound, im pretty certain it will be very good.

Bearcat Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 One of the features that im not worried is sound, im pretty certain it will be very good. To tell the truth I am not worried about any aspect of BoS.. I don't know what it will be but I think it will be better than any of the last 4 WWII sims I have dealt with
=BKHZ=Furbs Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 (edited) Worried is probably the wrong word BC, maybe "uncertain" is better. We flight sims fans have very high standards and expectations of new sims, no sim can have everything though, at least not everything done to the same level of fidelity at its release. BOS has a tight time frame, im maybe "uncertain" all its features will please everyone at release. BOS will attract flak, we all know it will. Looking at the development team, i I have faith it will do the important things very well and be successful enough to see further improvements, theaters and releases. Edited January 12, 2013 by Furbs
Feuerfalke Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Yes, the time is limited. But the engine does not have to be redesigned from scratch and though it was said little can be taken from CoD, I guess that many objects, textures or at least the research doesn't have to be done again. And then, the chosen battlefield is not that diverse in terms of ground and air-units used. Not to mention ships... So, I guess it's all a matter or perspective.
LLv34_Flanker Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 S! I just hope they get rid of the "sonar" present in both IL-2 and CoD. Having the Bg109G-2 "Black 6" CD and oh boy the roar in the cockpit! Can not even dream about hearing another plane behind you. But I have confidence in this joint-op and BoS will be good. Not been excited this much in ages, to finally dust off my HOTAS and get LLv34 back to the skies like in the good old days
O_Smiladon Posted January 13, 2013 Author Posted January 13, 2013 S So what do you think??? Will they import the sound from CLOD? But in saying that they could only do that with the German stuff. So that means they would have to go out and record new sound for the Russian stuff? How many of the old WW2 aircraft is still flying around in good old mother Russia? O_Smiladon
dburne Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 I personally think " some" of the sounds in COD, are absolutely awesome. 1
BMA_FlyingShark Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 What if they would talk to Jafa maybe? ~S~
Krupi Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Please no imported CLOD sounds!!!!!!!! LOL some of the CLOD sounds were made by the RoF sound guy, a little biased perhaps eh?
Kling Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 LOL some of the CLOD sounds were made by the RoF sound guy, a little biased perhaps eh? I take that back... :D The ambient sounds are actually pretty good in both sims. I was more thinking about the original sounds when CLOD was released. And the flyby sound bug for the 109 is still there in CLOD.
O_Smiladon Posted January 15, 2013 Author Posted January 15, 2013 Raaaaid, even tho you cant send me around the bend with some of your more colorful post... I think this is the most interesting thing I have read from you so far. Thanks for your input. O_Smiladon
peregrine7 Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 (edited) its cool you can locate sounds, and im talking of machine guns not engine a thing worth knowing is that binaural sound allows to know HEIGHT of sound though this is 1800 tech oddly enough i know not of any dolby sorround that can do this [Video removed to improve forum formatting] although this is quite a complex subject for that video in which you can smell the phosphorous is by a guy named zucharely, sound engineer of pink floyd or michael jackson, who would claim the ear emits sound creating an interference pattern with the incoming sound creating an holo sound ESL? Your grammar makes me think you're English first, or at least experienced with English, and yet you can't be bothered with syntax or anything other than a letter/number... Very frustrating. "Although this is quite a complex subject, the video in which you can [almost] smell the phosphorous was created by the sound engineer of Pink Floyd and Michael Jackso[n]. He claims that the ear emits sound that creates an interference pattern with regards to the oncoming sound. It's this interference, he claims, that creates the holo effect." Now this is in my area, Zuccarelli's reference interferometer *hypothesis* was never proved, however it was a much better explanation of the ear than the Bekesy (excuse my lack of accent) model before it, which disregarded tonality. Zucarelli's hypothesis was, unfortunately, later disproved however he was still an excellent sound engineer, the pioneer, heck the *creator* of holophonic sound. While he wasn't the sound engineer for Pink Floyd, one of Pink Floyd's albums (I can't recall which one, early 1980's though) was released as a holophonic recording and it sounded VERY nice. I first heard about Zuccerrell in New Scientist's 1983 edition, and sound design has always interested me, not to mention Pink Floyd! EDITED: To remove video as it took up too much room. EDIT2: Oh and Binaural doesn't necessitate vertical distinguishment, unless you mean the brand name. Vertical position is found by the unique shape of the ear lobe, try getting a constant sound and moving your hand near (not blocking the sound) your ear, the slight changes in positioning around your ear changes the wavefront, introducing reflections from your hand or reducing reflections from your ear lobe (if you move that with a finger). Those slight changes are what give your brain a guide, if you block one ear and move objects near someone's ear (as a test, don't try this on the subway) you can alter where they think the sound is coming from.
