Mmaruda Posted November 24, 2018 Posted November 24, 2018 It's been all Jugs and K4 here for the past few days, where all the WWI fanboys at? It's literally been a 100 years since the war ended. I flew a bit today to test the new stuff and yeah, it's great, the Jug, the new 109, but then I jumped into the Pfalz and hooooly crap, is WWI combat on point now! It takes me back to the day I first launched ROF and was simply elated by the simplicity and violence of combat. Having a million HP radial engine roar around you one thing, but zooming in what can only be described as a diesel Vespa with some cardboard wings, constantly turning, looping, rolling, scissoring only for that one brief moment when those crappy old MGs slowly rip off the opponents wing, bit by bit. I am that kid again who spent his afternoons chasing the Red Baron's kill-count in Knights of the Sky 3

Mmaruda Posted November 24, 2018 Author Posted November 24, 2018 LOL dumb me. I have a bookmark directly to the IL2 Forums and was wondering why there is no Flying Circus section.
Voidhunger Posted November 24, 2018 Posted November 24, 2018 Im just collecting planes and waiting for the career mode sometimes in the future. I dont like scripted missions/campaigns so without the career mode Im not interested in flying FC. And the AI is very bad right now for the FC.
Wolfram-Harms Posted November 24, 2018 Posted November 24, 2018 (edited) Oh, some of us are already there, and I hope more supporters will join over Xmas. Made me a Pfalz D.IIIa skin for Jasta 15, and today I did some exercising - Pfalz vs Camel. Stayed high and made boom+zoom attacks, and the Camel pilot (AI set on "Average") fell. A veteran was better; he could escape, cause I wasted all my ammo on distance shots. I like the new Damage Model - the opponents don't crumble under your guns anymore. Saw no wing coming off so far. Which is much more correct. They didn't use explosive ammunition back in WW1; they rounds would only pierce neat holes into canvas and wood, and you had to hit something vital, like the engine or better: the pilot. I find it hard to wait for the first map/landscape for FLYING CIRCUS; with Douai, Arras and Cambrai, and all the rivers and canals. since they can use that new terrain for both, FC and BoBP I expect them to come up with someting REAL hot. I agree with almost all your post - except one thing. Both sides were using incendiary ammunition by 1918 as a matter of routine, not just against balloons, and some of those incendiary rounds had an explosive component. We do not have that in the ammo mix, but if we did we would see a larger proportion of flamers. 1

Well, the scripted campaigns for BOx have been pretty good so far and there is some fan-made ones that are great as well (Fire and Ice - highly recommend). As for the AI, yeah it tends to do some dumb stuff, but honestly, it's pretty fun that way. Last time I played ROF with the AI it was kinda unbeatable, even on lower difficulties. I remember this campaign mission, where a lone German fighter would spawn and it was impossible for me to kill him even with invulnerability and infinite ammo, and I never use these, but I just turned them on for testing and the result was basically like playing and old school arcade SNK fighting game, where the AI just reads your inputs and does impossible shit to counter them. Anyway, I am waiting for more stuff. I was sort of disappointed, almost on the verge of regretting the purchase when FC was first available, but now I enjoy flying and fighting in those kites so much, I'm basically pissed off, there isn't more content. Still, great times ahead of us. The devs are doing a magnificent job with the platform. Here is hoping we won't have to wait too long.
EAF19_Marsh Posted November 24, 2018 Posted November 24, 2018 Give the Pflaz some height advantage on higher skill levels and it tries to maintain it or extend. It’s not great, same goes for the P-47 and 190, but I think there has been definite improvement. As a rule of thumb, the ‘turny’ fighters do better under AI, but even then they use the vertical (E-7 vs I-16) is still fun. But in answer to the OP, the relevant forum has the chat that you seek.
Rattlesnake Posted November 25, 2018 Posted November 25, 2018 I’m planning on buying FC and TC ASAP. I have approximately equal interest in WWI and WWII flying. In fact, I believe WWI works a little better on a computer screen because the closer distances and slower speed make the “No Icons=Legally Blind Pilots” problem much, much less of an issue. 1
