E_Davjack Posted November 23, 2018 Posted November 23, 2018 I was thinking about the FM differences in the games and I remembered this old video, that turns out to be quite hard to find (use the second link for direct download if your browser complains about Divx and you dont want to install an old plugin): http://wwiaircombat.com/articles/rise-of-flight-promo-movie-8-airflow-demo http://wwiaircombat.com/videos/kots_promo8.avi Two questions: 1) That video is from the beginning of the Digital Nature engine. Is it correct and does it really apply to the finalized RoF? 2) Is there a similar video for the Digital Warfare engine? I combed the Dev Diaries, but couldn't find anything like it and that is where I assume it would be.
E_Davjack Posted November 24, 2018 Author Posted November 24, 2018 (edited) I'll believe the guy with 7500 posts, thanks Luke! I'd be really interested to have a visual comparison of the FMs, which might explain why the Camel uses the same math as RoF and gets a different result. I imagine the DW engine is "higher resolution" in terms of simulating atmosphere, making things more subtle? Note for the devs, it would be really neat to have a visualization video for this engine. Maybe you don't want to show what's under the hood, but back when I saw that video for RoF I was blown away because I had always assumed that no flight sim had "digital air" modeled at all, and that everything is done through the aircraft model. Make the video with the ME-262 for good measure. Edited November 24, 2018 by II./JG1_EmerlistDavjack
ShamrockOneFive Posted November 24, 2018 Posted November 24, 2018 AnPetrovich, the brains behind the flight model, has been posting recently in this other thread that will probably partially answer those questions. In short, they didn't mess with the flight models much coming over from RoF to FC but it does sound like they made a few decisions and did tweak things a tad.

E_Davjack Posted November 24, 2018 Author Posted November 24, 2018 That exploded view is why I love these games. Gotta respect that level of detail. It really shows in the damage model compared to other games.
