Every time I open this game I have different fps. Yesterday after the update, I started the game and was surprised to see 90fps in VR on the same graphics settings I always use. It was late already so could not test it longer. Today morning I opened the same mission and fps are sh.t again!!! I checked the system, everything was as yesterday, no extra programs running in the background. I enabled Rivatunner, started the game and I see this https://imgur.com/fqpaRoM. Barely 60-70fps, GPU usage 70-80% and CPU 30-40%. Why this game does not use all resources?

A few ours later I started BoX again. The same mission "Patrol over Krymskaya" from BoK. Looked at the fps meter and boom! Stable 90fps and GPU usage 90%, CPU also a bit more than before https://imgur.com/qxFk07I. Why is this happening?

although i can not point my finger on it, i have expirienced similar issues. One evening great performance, next day stutter and worse fps, no changes between.

i have the suspision, maybe something in the background draining performance, windows updates or similar.

As I said nothing was running in the background. In task manager only il2.exe process was using CPU above 1%.

That's odd I only tried vr for a little while yesterday and was getting consistent performance. Check your steamVR settings I know they updated the beta version. I'll try again today currently waiting for luftense mod to release for the new version.

Never ending story ?

I was getting inconsistent frame rates for the first time ever in this game last week. What fixed it was a setting in the Nvidia Control Panel.

Manage 3D settings>Power management mode>Prefer maximum performance

Do this in the Global settings tab.

+1 big time on this. I found this out the hard way, for some reason setting it to that in a Nvidia Profile for this game does not work. At least not for me, had to use the global setting to get it to work properly.

Yea thanks for that. I read that thread where you figured that out. I never had that issue until I got an RTX 2080. I don't know if that's related or what... Never happened all these years with my GTX 770.

Anyways, good stuff. :good:

This might be the case. I used to have it set for max perf. in global settings, but read somewhere I should not do it because GPU runs at 100% all the time, even when idle. So I set it to balance and set max perf in program settings only for BoS.

For me that setting does not work in a profile for BoS, found out I pretty much have to set the Global to "prefer max performance".

I did try setting the global to adaptive rather than the default of optimal, it seemed to do better with that but still not getting as consistent as I was getting with "prefer max performance" .

For some reason in this game, I can't get a profile in Nvidia control panel to apply properly. Other games I have they do.

is it normal for BOS to not run a GPU  close to 100% even with ASW forced off?  I see my GPU usage ranging from 50% to 90% in VR however and I am not hitting 90 FPS most of the time.   When on a monitor it stays up above 90% almost 100% of the time if I turn my settings up enough to work the gpu.

I have confirmed that I don't have any other bottle necks, or thermal throttling.  Sure seems like if I could get BOS to run my GPU to 100% id be damn near 90fps most of the time....

The CPU is the bottleneck. Even if you read %CPU load around 40-50%. This is fake number.

read this:

and see also my GPU load here:

If you have a 8700 CPU (a non K CPU, so not overclock), try at least to enable the TurboBoost in BIOS so you at least reach your max Turbo freq. (4.6 GHz).

I would say the 2400 mhz RAM is also a bit suspect. I would look up some resources on overclocking both your 8700 (non-K) and the RAM. You ought to be able to get the 8700 to 102.8 BCLK for a ~4.7ghz all-core all-the-time clock speed, and you ought to be able to push the RAM a little better than 2400. Both of those will help significantly.

You might also want to back down to Balanced settings with Medium shadows, those have usually a big CPU impact. You can also use the Oculus Tray Tool to figure out what's slow -- use the "latency performance HUD" to show the CPU and GPU frame times. If either is more than 11ms you will fall short of 90 fps.

I am having this issue with low settings.  Testing in scripted campaign.  But thanks for the advice I am going to researc the bclk settings and ram clocking
