pegg00 Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 (edited) Okay so I read that lowering your gamma helps with spotting, so i lowered it to .8 and the cockpit feels way too dark. I can barely enjoy the beauty of the P-47. Is it worth the mildy better visibility if I cant even gawk at the cockpit details? or perhaps something is wrong with my monitor settings? I feel like on a bright day with a bubble canopy the cockpit would be better lit than it is. Ideas? Edited November 21, 2018 by pegg00
1CGS LukeFF Posted November 21, 2018 1CGS Posted November 21, 2018 Something's wrong with your monitor.
JonRedcorn Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 It looks dark on my phone but I run the same gamma and it's nowhere near that dark in the rift or my on my monitor.
Haza Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 I know it sounds perhaps silly to ask, but have you either tried turning on the instrument lights or do you have a monitor that you can select such things as night, day viewing and computer game modes, as my monitor has a button called Video Intelligence Technology that allows you to select various viewing modes. In addition the default for my monitor is a darker screen and I always need to change it to the gaming mode. Do you have the same issue when you are sat on the ground during mid-day or is it just when you appear to be in shadow? That aide, the reflections on the transparency are bloody amazing so at least that works nicely! Regards and good luck resolving it. H
Finkeren Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 I have not been able to DL the update yet, but this looks way too dark. An issue with contrast perhaps? 1 hour ago, LukeFF said: Something's wrong with your monitor. How can it be his monitor, if we can see the issue too?
pegg00 Posted November 21, 2018 Author Posted November 21, 2018 (edited) I tinkered with my monitor settings, didnt seem to do much. That picture was in a shadow. I took another with my phone and tried to get some light in the cockpit, still seems dark to me, but tell me what you guys think . Keep in mind the light part is only when the sun is pointed directly into my cockpit, most of the time it looks like the darker areas. Edited November 21, 2018 by pegg00
Haza Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 Pegg00 To be honest, having just loaded a quick mission, mine does look very similar (I have ultra setting) although it is difficult to compare, sorry! Have you tried putting the instrument lights on to see if that helps?
Feathered_IV Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 Mine are particularly dark too. The P-39 and P-40 especially. I had .80 gamma too but upped it so I didn't have to fly with the lights on. Although it often makes the sky painfully bright after half an hour or so.
Art-J Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 Did only three short flights yesterday, but it indeed is somewhat on the dark side compared to other planes in the sim (with the same, gamma and monitor profile obviously). As for the instrument lights - nah, they won't help me with checking the tailwheel lock lever position for example, neither should I have to use them while flying mid day in sunny conditions.
blitze Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 (edited) Have you enabled HDR in the graphics settings? This makes a big difference to lighting in the cockpit. Lifts the shadows so they are not so dark compared to the outside world. Also, try calibrating your monitor. Edited November 21, 2018 by blitze Another thought
Art-J Posted November 24, 2018 Posted November 24, 2018 ^ Thanks for the reminder. Yup, in my case turning the HDR back on helped a lot. I used to have it off to get rid of bullcrap-level Barbie-world bloom effects on white markings and such, but I guess I'll have to live with them if it makes US-planes pits more visible. It's much better in the Thunderbolt now.
pegg00 Posted November 25, 2018 Author Posted November 25, 2018 HDR enabled also fixed my issue. Although I’m uncertain if it is affecting my contact spotting abilities, it almost seems to make tiny shiny planes blurr with the shiny ground.
Rattlesnake Posted November 25, 2018 Posted November 25, 2018 It’s not a cockpit, it’s a 1945 man cave.
