adler_1 Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 A) Radiator , when i go engine manual i can make adjustments to the radiator , so what is 0% ? Is that the slat closed or open ? if so , 100 % open reduces top speed ? what about overheat when you are full throttle in a dogfight and you are over 100 dgrs temperature ? B) Prop pitch , what is the optimum pitch % for this aircraft in a dogfight ? overheat ?
[APAF]VR_Spartan85 Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 Ohhhhh the many questions of all planes... luckly there is a specifications section when you open the map! It will show you temps, rpms, manifolds, and special operations.. the lagg is fun, big nose cannon and pretty forgiving.. Different weather different rad settings... also you have both oil and water rad...

A) yes you can then make adjustments to radiators, yes 0% is fully closed and 100% fully open, yes it reduces speed when fully open. use fuly open for climb, on summer use 50-80% in flights, on winter 30-50%, up high abow 6km you can go even lower, in df it will owerheat fast if you have it below 50% and you can last 2-3min before engine dyes when overheated. Thats for water rad, you also have oil radiator, its speed effect is less whe 0 or 100%, i just have it at 50% open all time. B) when climb on summer maps use 90 trottel and 90 pitch (100% open rads) to avoid overheat, if fighting or flying strait just have trottle and pitch at 100% all time. also you have to adjust mixture (when your not leaving black smook trail is ok for that alt) and switch to 2nd stage supercharger abow ~2200m Edited November 20, 2018 by 77.CountZero 1
adler_1 Posted November 20, 2018 Author Posted November 20, 2018 i'm going to see how long i last without over heating in a summer battle Radiator set at 80% and pitch at 100% . If that happens i will break off and see how long it takes for the indicator to go back below 100 dgrs . My battles in my own small missions seem to last approx 7mn . We dont have reload and refuel yet even though its in the game settings to go down fill up and rejoin the fight as was the case in reality . I did'nt know the Lagg 3 has a supercharger . I've tried it in the LA5-8 over 2500 mt , i appointed the keys S and CTRL S but i have'nt yet learnt how to manage it well and i was'nt adjusting radiators and pitch . Thanks for the detailed explanations ,

LA5-8 I have this airplane from the collectors list bought recently . I read it has 1700 HP but at above 2500 mt height supercharger at 2 i still dont get any boost with or without , below that and charger set at 1 same thing . in a straight line i dont break the 420-30 kmh in full auto . How do i get that extra 50 km's at least out off her ? that's what it was built for . Edited November 21, 2018 by dog1

adler_1 Posted November 21, 2018 Author Posted November 21, 2018 (edited) here is what i found very useful . plus the 2 pages on that thread are a total disaster !! Edited November 21, 2018 by dog1

Open radiator reduce the speed, closed radiator increases the temperature, the boiling temperature depends on air pressure. LaGG desn't have manual propeller pitch control - it has governor, go full governor during the fight, it will increase your speed/acceleration but you will overheat faster. Generally keep radiators 2/3 opened in LaGG and change only when overheat. Don't bother with many details at the begining, join some squad - guys will teach you basics. La-5s8 Climb at 2500-3000 meters, cowling closed, inlet fully opened, oil radiator fully opened, full throttle, full RPM, auto full mix, push boost than set supercharger as 2 and just look at your manifold pressure
adler_1 Posted November 21, 2018 Author Posted November 21, 2018 i have Bies , just need to read quietly before flying any off my planes into combat . I should be memorizing all adjustments to my planes eventually . tks support . Its interesting that with some fine tuning and good tactics you can bring down an F4 in high settings . If i had'nt been reading the experiences of soviet pilots i would'nt have believed it was possible .
adler_1 Posted November 22, 2018 Author Posted November 22, 2018 i have the manual and i read the link above on the aircrafts set up but i don't see anything at all refering to mixture , can you pls indicate where its explained .
303_Bies Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 You will see dark trail behind the plane if your mixture is to rich, don't care about that in dogfight, richer mixdecrease the temperature and increase fuel consumption. From the link i posted: "Aircraft Flight and Technical Specifications and Operational Details" LaGG-3 series 29 Operation features: (...) - Engine mixture control is manual, it is necessary to lean the mixture if altitude is more than 3-4 km for optimal engine operation. Also, leaning the mixture allows a reduction in fuel consumption during flight. (...) La-5 series 8 Operation features: (...) - Engine mixture control is automatic when the mixture lever is set to maximum. It is possible to manually lean the mixture by moving the mixture control to less than maximum. This also reduces fuel consumption during flight. (...)
