DD_bongodriver Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I know, low flying is so irresponsible......... 1
II./JG27_Rich Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 (edited) Yes..May be dealing with a couple of psychopaths there and I'm not trying to be funny. I don't know the mans name who kept pushing the edge of that Air Force B-52 but he finally had that big crash at that airshow in the 90s. He had a long history of doing crazy things....Same type. These two will probably end up dead before long. Edited February 9, 2014 by II./JG27_Rich
HansHansen Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I know, low flying is so irresponsible......... +1 those poor people on the ground probably didn't even know what was going on. Not to mention the dense population around was needlessly endangered as well. 2
FuriousMeow Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 There's a pungent aroma in this thread, it stinks of sarcasm between two individuals. It is stupid flying to do that. It's stupid driving to go drifting down a vacant road, it's stupid to look down the barrel of a weapon. Yeah, no one might be on that road or there might not be a round in there that a bump of the trigger could set off - but it's still stupid. 1
MACADEMIC Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 If these guys keep practicing just a bit more they might soon qualify for a Darwin award... MAC 3
Trooper117 Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 A pratt is a pratt regardless of rank or skill... that pilot needs his licence removed, and quick...
HansHansen Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 that pilot needs his licence removed, and quick... Why? If it was his plane, and no innocent bystanders were around or passengers inside the plane, what's the big deal ? If he kills himself while wrecking his machine it is his problem only. He can do with his life whatever he wants. And please don't say "those poor guys on the ground...". They wanted to see exactly this.

Rama Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Why? If it was his plane, and no innocent bystanders were around or passengers inside the plane, what's the big deal ? If he kills himself while wrecking his machine it is his problem only. He can do with his life whatever he wants. And please don't say "those poor guys on the ground...". They wanted to see exactly this. I'm not judging the pilot behavior. I know some who did worse than that.... but if they get caught, they will have problems and probably get their licence removed for sometime (as it happens to everybody when breaking rules, either on the road, or in air, or anywhere else). Don't know where the footage has been shot, but in Europe there's no place you're allowed to fly under 500fts, except off course when landing or taking off. Among others, I know one pilot who loved to practice water touch on lakes... one time the police was there and recorded his registration, he lost the licence for one year.
DD_bongodriver Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 if he wasn't within 500ft of any vessel or person then touching on water is perfectly legal, the 500ft rule applies laterally as well as vertically but (at least under UK law) only applies to proximity to person, vehichle, vessel or structure, if it is in open land or water clear of those listed items then you may fly as low as you want.
Rama Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Then UK rules are different from French ones. If the Gendarmerie can prove you were flying lower than 500 fts, above land or lakes (those not considered as open water), then you have problems. The only possibilities I can think when you can fly under 500 fts are when performing aerial spraying, and then you need a special licence, and for the military planes in some specific airspaces.
DD_bongodriver Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 It's possible the rules are different I guess, so much for European harmonisation, it does surprise me the French are more restrictive because it was always apparent to me that France is a much more aviation friendly country.
Rama Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 BTW, in France, the 500ft rule applies also laterally as well as vertically, but of any obstacle (and ground is considered as an obstacle). This means that if your height above the ground is more than 500 fts, you can fly below a cliff top (or whatever other obstacle) which distance is more than 500fts. I'm also quite surprised it's different in UK, I thought it was the same.
DD_bongodriver Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 I knew our 500ft rule was different to most of Europe, like I said I'm more surprised the French are equally restricted. our 500ft rule is a separation distance and not a height, that is the exact wording.http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&ved=0CDIQFjAC&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.caa.co.uk%2Fdocs%2F7%2FEIS%252002a.pdf&ei=YiL5UsLpCs7xhQeJl4CoAw&usg=AFQjCNHSVfy5LrdIqLDEYPoihe0Duv0ZOA
Sternjaeger Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 (edited) I've seen far, far worse, although it has to be said that the real idiot there is the guy with the beer.. talking of crazy flying, have you ever seen this chap? Edited February 11, 2014 by Sternjaeger 2
Rama Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Didn't saw him, but I remember another one performing a similar show at La Ferté-Alais in 2008 That's really impressive.
