Chief_Mouser Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 I saw a wheel come off an Il-2 when it hit a bump just past the end of the runway; that was cool. As for myself, lost plenty of wheels in combat - forgetting to check the green lights before landing is a bit embarrassing though. 1
Hanu Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 I had had a couple of hits on the wing of my 109, but it still flew quite nicely. I finished my sortie and came back to base and made a nice three-point-landing... EXCEPT my Bf-109 rolled over when it touched down!!! I was very surprised about what happened... how this could be?? After checking outside view I saw my right-side wheel (just the wheel) was missing. After looking back the track I saw that the hits I received managed to blow my wheel away, but the landing gear itself worked! I was pretty impressed about damage modeling after that. 1

69th_Mobile_BBQ Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 I've seen planes extend their gear as if to land as the systems that kept the gear up-and-locked were destroyed. There are actual real life accounts of this happening (either one wheel or both). I agree the damage model is awesome. 1

Yeah, the damage model is great!

I have had many wheels come off. mostly in bombers though they tend to get shredded up by fighters alot
