jaydee Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 I know a lot of the "Hardcore" crowd don't want Icons of any description. They don't want any GPS of any kind ! Fair enough . Are these the same people that use TS that didn't exist. They form as a Squad and they have Perfect Communications (that never happened) with each other. ….And they scream in every Server for "Full Real ".~S~ 1
Chief_Mouser Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 You want hardcore? Back in the day we did some online Rise of Flight missions where, because the planes had no radios, TeamSpeak was banned and we had to communicate using the pilot gestures. Interesting for about five minutes then deadly boring for the next hour. Communicating with your squad mates is part of the fun of online flying; mainly it's shooting the breeze until the action starts. Whether it's 'realistic' or not is beside the point, although for a lot of WW2 aircraft it is. The RAF, Luftwaffe and USAAF pilots could all talk to their flights' pilots. Some of the VVS and IJA/IJN were more limited. 1 1

=EXPEND=Tripwire Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 I'm still hopeful one day there is some in-game VoIP or 3rd party integration that simulates radio ranges based on the planes radio hardware and line of sight, plus emulates some of their limitations. Perhaps allowing full range only when at the plane select screen etc. 1 2
CountZero Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 it would be also good to be able to disable by server, techchat if serever wonts it, and even in game stats and chat, its easy to know what you plan to do when you see how many players are on server on what side or even guess where each play will go when you can easy see what targets he have destroyed just by looking at in game stats, in 1946 this was posible to hide and it was more of fog of war then now is posible, also then players dont know who joned, how many enemys there is and so on... full hardcoe i say 1
69th_Mobile_BBQ Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 Getting one's radio shot to hell certainly doesn't happen on discord or teamspeak. When the Pacific Campaign gets built and released, the early Japanese planes will get a 'comms buff' due to the fact that the early war fighters (including early Zeroes) didn't even have radios. I don't know if the Japanese bombers had radio sets, but I imagine they would - being that they were larger multi-crew planes that needed to operate in a tightly-coordinated fashion. Tripwire's suggestion of a comms system that only allows full range between all players in menu select but realistically simulates while 'in battle' is an excellent one. And I'm with you, CountZero about full hardcore. I would like to play 'skies of duty' type matches sometimes, but I think I'd enjoy full fog of war and other non-arcade features more.
CountZero Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 yes not all servers have to be same, i played in servers with icons ouside views and wnderwoman view in 1946 and at same time i played on so caled full real servers, and dinamic wars and so on. But then WT didnt exist so all were at same place, arcade-semiarcade-hardcore, now arcade and semiarcade have better option in WT so here most ppl are oriented towards no icons and ousideviews and so on...

CountZero Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 Yes your right, ability to costumize icons like il-2 1946 or clod have would help, some servers were having icons only for frends or icons grey at far but show color close by and id or type of airplane and so on, her its always same or no icons so more options is good.

It can simulate ranges and line of sight limitations, among other things. Really immersive.
