If the trench system and no man's land is representative, which realistically is what I expect, it would be nice if tools were made available as part of the core game release, for enthusiastic individuals, to be able to mod, extend and recreate accurate trench layouts.  It would also be nice if, maybe for FC2, presumably a 1917 planeset, that a waterlogged, no man's land, tile set could be provided. It seems 1918 was relatively dry but it would be fantastic if they could include a wet look 1917, Battle of Passchendaele terrain as well.

Whatever the layout, a trench should be a trench..

I haven't played Rise of Flight in a while, and my poor bastards pilots never made it past a week in game, so I can't be sure, but I swear hearing somewhere that the trenches/No Man's Land shifted in that game. If that is the case, then I hope that feature makes its way into FC.

Presumably so you can have the gratification of falling into one should you come down at the front. Would you like them to model the horrors of trench life, or would you prefer always to be able to drop-in for coffee at an officer's dugout?

No none of the above.

It's always been one of RoF's few let-downs, the fact that the 2D 'trenches' look so crappy.

I appreciate that it may be a difficult thing to introduce, but what we have in RoF is what it is all the same.

Was hoping for an underground 'level' in FC...

Salute my friend.

No, the trench lines are static.

I would love to have real 3d model of trenches and shell holes and new mission type : trench-strafing :)

This flat surface was good in 2009 but not in 2019.

The graphical representation of the trench lines is static but I am fairly sure that if you play RoF career the front line as calculated for POW status moves historically and is shown on the briefing map. So it is possible to force land on your side of the NML area but be made a POW. Although the ground units such as balloons and AA guns could still be spawned in what should now be enemy areas.  Made for occasional puzzling outcomes.

Still it is three years since I played RoF career so my memory could be playing tricks. The new career system seems to have got this (and most other things) sorted much better, although I slightly miss the random variability in plane quality that RoF had.

Mission-builder trench lines would be great but sounds like a bit of work for the team based on the object placement approach in RoF.

I can FEEL all you Luftstreitkräfte boys just itching to dive out of the watery European sun onto the poor old Camels running the gamut of MG 08 fire coming up from a beautifully 3d modelled trenchscape, complete with sandbags, moving troops, gutted tanks, shellholes and acres of barbed wire.

Which is why that nice Mr Folland gave us the SE5a.

That would need a mesh with a resolution of 1m. So far, the RoF terrain has a 50m mesh. I think that the Tank Crew will have more precise terrain, but iam not sure if it will be THAT precise. Besides that, it is a problem to find geo-maps with such a detail.
