76IAP-Black Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 I would like to know, what causes the "grinding" noise on the P-39 when you move the camera infront of the plane during the flight. I'm not an expert, so im asking the community
76IAP-Black Posted November 15, 2018 Author Posted November 15, 2018 To be honest i have no idea, would be interesting what the Devs can say about it?
76IAP-Black Posted November 15, 2018 Author Posted November 15, 2018 Thats what i have found, and threre is nothing i would say, it could make that sound
[CPT]Pike*HarryM Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 (edited) I thought they said it was the propeller gear box, seems overdone. Videos of P-63 taxing (similar engine and layout) from front you don't hear that sound. Edited November 15, 2018 by [CPT]Pike*HarryM 1
76IAP-Black Posted November 15, 2018 Author Posted November 15, 2018 Funny thing is, nobody else mentioned it in the past, yes it seems to overdone in the noise level
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 From what I know it's caused by the propellor shaft/gearing. Theres a couple of videos demonstrating that sound.
76IAP-Black Posted November 15, 2018 Author Posted November 15, 2018 Danke für die Klarstellung! ? Never knew that it was that loud, no other simulater i have played, had it as a feature. Nice addition but still a bit irritating
Diggun Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 Not as irritating as having to fly the damn thing into combat...
[APAF]VR_Spartan85 Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 Oh you’re talking about that ‘whirring’ sound. Hehe. wouldn’t call that grinding... Gotta be nose gear box.. pretty unique sound ya?
Feathered_IV Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 I noticed that too. As you pan around it reminds me of that noise Jim Carrey makes in Dumb and Dumber.
TRRA15 Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 It's gearbox whine. Here's a video from inflight, P-63 though..... Loud! The engine reciprocation clatter and exhaust, and the gearbox whine combine to form a rhapsody. Here:
Haza Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 (edited) Perhaps it's the pilot's teeth grinding, wishing the P-47 was released this week!? Just a thought. However, I'm sure it can't be anything to do with him having a big shaft between his legs though!? Regards Edited November 16, 2018 by Haza 1

Ehret Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 5 hours ago, Haza said: However, I'm sure it can't be anything to do with him having a big shaft between his legs though!? It's high RPM but relatively low torque as the gearbox is in the nose. The pilot has metal seat so it's doubtful that anything would happen to a crotch. If that was so worrisome then what 109s pilots must had been feeling with the cannon breach in similar place? Imagine a faulty MK108 shell exploding there...
EAF19_Marsh Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 Just now, Ehret said: It's high RPM but relatively low torque as the gearbox is in the nose.
