Best settings for contact spotting?

My specs are as follows:

i7 6700k at 4 ghz

16 gigs of ram

Nvidia GTX 1080

2k monitor with G-Sync and 165 mhz.

I run the game on ultra, but shadows are left to normal same with clouds. I get mostly around 70-100 fps, but sometimes on BoK I can drop to 45-50 if there's a lot going on.

I have trouble spotting stuff, and I wonder if the game graphics might have something to do with it.

I set distant landscape detail at 4x, SSAO is off and HDR is on. Landscape filtering (I think that's what it's called is at sharp)

Should I turn HDR off? Not really sure what it does, but I read it makes you get better contrast which is... good?

I'd be interested also, as I'm not sure if my setting are optimal for this either (I got a 32in 2k monitor) . My specs are in my signature.
Game docs are piss poor on this stuff... sadly

Your settings seem good to me my ssao and hdr are the same as yours.  My gamma is .8 and I turn shadows up, seeing enemy shadows has saved me.

Hi,

if you want to increase your spotting abilities, then I suggest to set the "Landscape filter = Blurred".

Plus I suggest to activate the option "Sharpen".

Btw. if you set distant landscape detail at 4x, it won't help you spotting better, but it will fill your VRAM of your GPU

and you may encounter some stutter - at least on some newer maps like Kuban.

Cheerio

Yes, this is true as well for me.

What is the size of your screen? Pixel density on a 27 inch with 2k would be fairly high, and it would likely hurt spotting to some degree.

that's exactly my screen. 27'' 2k.

Change the ground filter to blurred, ultra shadows, use the zoom.

The biggest thing that helped me was turning off anti aliasing and running the game at 1080p.  Even at needle point, aircraft are noticable at 3k this way.

Another thing, though not as important, is dropping the gamma below what the graphics menu allows, by editing the ini file.  I run .4.  it's a bit extreme. .5 gamma is reasonable.

If your monitor has fancy settings, toying with them in a practice mission is a good idea.
