Elem Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 (edited) Ok, so ever since we've had the in-game FPS indicator it has shown I'm getting 30 FPS....No matter where I fly map wise or whatever the density of items. I have tried adjusting every setting in GRAPHICS and have run it in LOW right up to ULTRA and it's the same what ever, although I see improved graphics when increasing the settings. This is not to say that the sim is not running smoothly. I have no issues with the performance, it's smooth and stutter free, but comparing by rig specs to others, mine appears to be way better that some others who are able to get 90+ FPS no problem. I have used FRAPS as a second check and that shows the same 30 FPS constantly? What is going on here? I'd be interested to hear from anyone with a similar rig and what FPS they are getting. It's just so weird that it never varies, up or down! Edited November 13, 2018 by Elem
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 You must caping yours frames. You set max fps to 30. I can't believe you are using 30hz monitor refresh rate with vsync on?
coconut Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 IIRC there is an nvidia control panel setting to set “half-vsync”, see if you haven’t set that up in the general section or in the page for the game. There’s also a frame rate target in the game’s settings, check it’s set to 60 or no limit.
Elem Posted November 13, 2018 Author Posted November 13, 2018 Found it! I was not running in Full Screen mode! And, with v-sync OFF it reverted to 30 FPS, with it ON and Full Screen it runs between 50 - 100FPS. So there I am flying with frame rates I'd not seen before and loving it and I'm into the second mission and....bingo! Black screen! My GPU has just died! Coincidence or what?
F/JG300_Gruber Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 Looking at your signature, you happen to have the same monitor as me (iiyama 40" 4k), although my graphic card is a gtx1080 One thing I'd like to point out, if you are running in native 4k resolution, the maximum refresh rate of this monitor is 60Hz, so no point pushing your GPU higher than that. For the 30Hz issue thing with Vsync : - Make sure that you are using the display port cable and not hdmi (hdmi can't handle higher than 30Hz in 4k) - Look into the monitor settings menu (button 1 on the bottom of the screen, then last sub-menu in the list) and check that display port format is on 1.2 and not 1.1 - In your graphic card setup menu and/or windows display settings check that the resolution is set to native 60hz and not 30hz as it may appear by default. - Force the V-sync ON in your graphic card menu, and leave the in-game V-sync OFF, I get the same framerate but a much smoother and fluid picture by not using the ingame Vsync. (That last one may be outdated since there were a few updates since I last experimented with that but it's worth trying). I find it quite suspicious that you have a varying framerate between 50 and 100, if Vsync was working properly, you should have a steady 60fps with that screen.

Yes, a very similar rig what with the CPU too. I will check all those things you suggest but it will have to wait till I have a new GPU, and I'll report back then.

I have finally been able to make these adjustments since installing my new GPU. Yes, you were so right. I've been running that monitor at 30Hz since I bought it 2 years ago. Set to 60Hz it's like a new sim! an amazing improvement in FPS, smoothness, clarity and sharpness. Although V-sync on or off makes no difference. Thanks Gruber. 1
