AndyJWest Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 Never used a camshaft grinder. Did a bit of work with a surface grinder back in the days when Airfix decided that junior draughtsmen like me needed a bit of practical toolroom experience. Very satisfactory to work with, once one got used to the smell of blood. Or rather the smell of burning iron particles, which smelt much the same, probably because of the iron in haemoglobin. I made the mistake once of leaving one turned off over lunch, and assuming that it hadn't moved when I turned it back on again. Result was an almighty graunching noise, and a look of panic all around the toolroom. I was lucky that the workpiece shifted, rather than shattering the wheel, because otherwise I'd probably ended up on the operating table, having chunks of it removed from my intestines. Apparently such machines tend to drop the wheel slightly while turned off. I think it was soon after this that Airfix decided I was safer with a draughting pen than I was with machine tools, and sent me back to the drawing office...
Gambit21 Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 I like camshafts....but between camshafts and pizza....I choose pizza.
Finkeren Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 I love watching someone getting the shaft on cam. Does that count?
