JG300_Egon Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 It useless to add multiple layers clouds to the game if those problems of pixelated and disapearing planes is not solve. It was in my feedback to devs, so I upvote Barton ! 1

E69_geramos109 Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 Thanks for the video and the critic. Lets see how much time it takes to the team to solve the isue. But being a simulator where the fight is based on situacional awareness and contact visivility is a very important isue to have such a bug and such limitation. 1
F/JG300_Gruber Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 (edited) Thanks for the video. Couple thoughts on my end : - Screen resolution also plays a big role in this cloud issue. I've never seen a disappearing plane again since I moved to a good GTX and a 4k screen. Very expensive workaround, but for those lucky enough to have some performance room left on their GPU, maybe generating higher resolution picture and downscaling it to the monitor resolution might help. But I'm no expert. - I don't really agree that the team is any slow at fixing things. FM was a big chunk with a lot of tuning involved and careful analysis of scarce historical sources, so it certainly took much more time that we all wanted it to. But look for instance at the migration from DX9 to DX11 it was done in a way shorter time than the most optimistic estimations of the community. It's all about ressource allocation and budget/time constraints, and managing their "urgent things to do" list Edited November 5, 2018 by F/JG300_Gruber 1 1
JG1_Barton Posted November 5, 2018 Author Posted November 5, 2018 Resolution is one of the things that has been brought to my attention and I’ll examine that tonight when I get home from work. Unfortunately my big monitor only does 1080p but I’ll see if DSR helps any. I understand that this may not be fixed any time soon mostly because their resources are probably being thrown at Bodenplatte and Flying Circus. Ultimately they need to produce new content to generate income. No one wins if 1C/777 go under.
CB77Don246 Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 I have the same problem my card is a GTX 1060 3GB The Yak 1b I can not see and it is close.
C6_lefuneste Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 Did you try with my mod : it reduces greatly this problem of planes hidden by cloud behind them... 1

C6_lefuneste Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 The cloud fix is active by default. Could you post a track where the planes are still not visible in front of cloud, in order to help me to check why the mod is not improving the cloud problem ? Planes should be less than 2 km away of your POV.
CB77Don246 Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 I did not install my JSGME correctly all ok now and your mod works fine enclosed a pic the planes seem clearer even at short range, I also noticed I have lost the gun sight on the plane is this right?, while im here is there anything else the mod do I ? And Thank you for taking the time to reply and the mod.

And Thank you for taking the time to reply and the mod. Great ! You'll have to press Lalt+k in order to get your sight back, because the mod is tuned for VR by default. This can be changed by modifying d3dx.ini, have a look on the detailed explanation of the first post on the mod thread. You may also notice that labels are hidden by your airframe with the mod.
JG1_Barton Posted November 6, 2018 Author Posted November 6, 2018 I’ve installed the mod and labels are now hidden by the aircraft cockpit but I see no difference in how planes appear in front of clouds. I’ll have time to do more tinkering tonight.
JG1_Barton Posted November 7, 2018 Author Posted November 7, 2018 As far as screen resolution is concerned I’ve ramped DSR up to 400% off of 1080p and this issue still exists. Maybe it’s less so on true 4K monitors but I saw absolutely no difference between true 1080 and DSR up to 8K.

Jason_Williams Posted November 7, 2018 Posted November 7, 2018 We've said this before and I'll say it again here. There is nothing more we can do with this technology. We'd have to scrap our total cloud tech and rebuild from scratch. I don't like it, but it's technology I was saddled with when I took over and had no say when it was implemented. I have no time or resources or people to change it now. Videos like this don't really do anything except rehash an old issue. if the clouds bug you badly say so in the Feedback survey we currently have running. This thread does not belong in this section and I will move it. Jason 1

But I'm no expert. I have a GTX 1080 and a 4K TV/monitor - the vanishing against clouds still happens often enough, although it may be at greater distances. As Jason says there is nothing that can be done anytime soon, and I accept that. Of course a fast GPU and 4K have other benefits - the game still runs well at 4K and looks terrific, but people should not be misled into spending large sums for upgrades in the expectation that this will fix this issue completely: it will not.

Im so sad to hear this.... this at the moment is my only complaint about the sim..... we have beautiful clouds but they are so flawed. Escorting bombers is frustrating to cover when clouds present because of this issue... and yes i've used the feedback section (which is a great idea!) for this very reason "We'd have to scrap our total cloud tech and rebuild from scratch." Honestly, your product has this communities complete support... and i believe that if your company made the decision to put full production into new cloud technology that gave us the result we all want there wouldn't be an issue. you overhauled the sim its self to 64Bit for gods sakes! and its payed off entirely... With the new expansion coming out soon... new fuel mechanics, aircraft technology, upping pilot and aircraft standards... this is the only sim i've played with layered clouds and moisture when flying through them... I'm sorry if you lack the resources at the moment, i myself am not a programmer but an aviation lover and AME in training, so i do not know the difficulties you combat day to day... IL-2 GB is my go to for stick and rudder flying by the seat of your pants authentic action pack relaxing experience... and i want it to continue to thrive.. I'm not trying to have a negative reaction to your reply, im just disappointed because i know this is an amazing sim... Thank you for your efforts... Edited November 17, 2018 by spartan85 1 1
KoN_ Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 Dont we have a MOD that did a fix too clouds .
chiliwili69 Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 Maybe a silly question, but... Could you borrow clouds technology from CoD? Clouds in CoD look gorgeous!
coconut Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 Similar tech as clouds in DCS I suppose. I don't like them very much. They look OK in stills, but in VR you can see they are flat particles that rotate with you when you do aerobatics through them. The current tech in IL-2 is the way to go I believe. They looked great before the Kuban release, I'm sure the devs can get them back if they get the time to work on it. 1

I have not other flight sim installed in my PC, so can not test others. When CoD will be in VR I will give it a try to see how clouds looks like. But in still image is amazingly realistic. I think clouds simulation could be one of the most complex things to achieve in computer graphics. Twenty years ago I spent a full year simulating smoke in a supercomputer. 14 hours ago, E69_geramos109 said: Did you test Migoto mod? No, I didn´t try. Not very friend of mods. (don´t know really why). What I really don´t understand well is how just a smart guy (lefuneste) can repair a bug that developers (who are also very smart) can´t. It might be priorities and resources.

LLv34_Flanker Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 S! Use the clouds to game the game, as everybody else. Best gfx engine in the market and all that..
