AA_Engadin Posted February 8, 2014 Author Posted February 8, 2014 Yep, thanks Extreme_One, I am a true believer in ORs very close future and use to read everything about it in our forum. Thanks anyway. AA_Engadin
DD_fruitbat Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Tried it myself yesterday, it is truly awesome. Will be getting the retail version for sure, it is the future imo. Unbelievably immersive.
15[Span.]/JG51Costa Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I have the OR and waiting forward for implementation in BoS.
ReviZorro Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 (edited) In Russian part of BoS community we made a rollcall for Oculus Rift owners. and count only 3 of us... Interesting. how many OR owners is there? Edited February 9, 2014 by ReviZorro

Can you explane me (step by step, I´m not good in this area) How can I do it? Tx in advance. 15(Span.)/JG51 Costa It was not native OR support. I am using third party software - TriDef (www.tridef.com) TriDef have experimental OR support, for 12 games, and BoS is not in the list. So, I (and other colleagues from russian forum) can only trying a "General" preset of TriDef for BoS - without 3D picture (flat image) but with head tracking support. It's better than nothing, but does not give a feeling of presence in the real cockpit (
DD_bongodriver Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Vorpx also works but also without 3d

Its not that far away.

DD_fruitbat Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 anyone tried skyrim with the dev kit yet?
ReviZorro Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 anyone tried skyrim with the dev kit yet? Looks pretty good with both TriDef and VorpX, except interface. There is a lot of videos on YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=skyrim%20oculus%20rift&sm=3

Interesting. how many OR owners is there? Hi, I guess people is a bit reluctant to spend money on the first batches of a brand new device, and even more when it is an absolute ground breaking technology like OR. And take into account no definitive commercial proposal is on the shelves yet. So, none of us knows how it will finally be like at the moment of checking our purses. I must admit I'll jump on it blindfold when the first - and unavoidable - bugs are ironed. But not before that. OR is not the first device to suffer from preventive holding on on customers side and won't be the last. But, nevertheless, future for OR can't be a brighter one. VeryOldMan Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 In Russian part of BoS community we made a rollcall for Oculus Rift owners. and count only 3 of us... Interesting. how many OR owners is there? That type of thing takes time to become mainstream. For peopel that already have a home cockpit .. it seems a no brainer to buy one. For think on the people that live in a normal family where they wife would hit him with a broom if he said he would be walking int he house with that Alien helmet ? Occulus rift is still for early adopters. will be a few years before hitting mainstream, and even so will have strong social resistance (most people prefer to hide their geek side)
DD_bongodriver Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 But an Oculus rift is not surgically implanted to your face, you only have to wear it at home, why would it compromise the closet geek?
DD_bongodriver Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Try hiding the closet geek with all the other gadgets being developed for VR https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=VR+gun&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=1hj6UqSUBaiM7QaXy4CIDg&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1920&bih=944#q=delta%206%20controller&revid=848726547&tbm=isch https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=vr+treadmill&tbm=isch&imgil=7PdXK-SQZNo6lM%253A%253Bhttps%253A%252F%252Fencrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com%252Fimages%253Fq%253Dtbn%253AANd9GcRMhQxGVt4RXdcV5shsb3vmNmPPzNWTFyoBu8mjCSEulgIqGddWWw%253B397%253B528%253BZzgDMcNJbF3KHM%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.gizmag.com%25252Fvirtuix-omni-treadmill-vr%25252F27214%25252F&source=iu&usg=__-IupKxy-8i6oNACOXlloYtIfQGM%3D&sa=X&ei=9Bj6Up6NG4WV7Qbpi4HACA&sqi=2&ved=0CEUQ9QEwBA&biw=1920&bih=944#imgdii=_

Occulus rift is still for early adopters. will be a few years before hitting mainstream, and even so will have strong social resistance (most people prefer to hide their geek side) To be honest you and the rest of us are already 'geeks' so another bit of kit isn't going to make much difference. I'm 52 been and my wife and kids have long given up worrying about what new contraption I've bought/made to feed my mania. Luckily they aren't aware of OR yet but all that will change as soon as the consumer version hits the market and I can grab one. In another life my wife used to like the Silent Hill video games as she likes having the cr*p scared out of her, as soon as I can find a decent zombie type game for her she's trying the OR and I'm going to laugh my head off...

JG27_Chivas Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 (edited) Decent VR will stampede the "geek" barrier. Anyone who has followed the development of the OR can see that non gamers are blown away by the OR experience. Not to mention all the other uses that dwarf the gaming industry. It appears the OR development has ironed out some of the major VR setbacks, and will provide the experience at a relatively cheap price point. The developer realized that its not just the hardware thats required, but software content has to be there, so the developer has been a huge supporter of "anyone" interested in developing that content. They've also started their own software development company. Follow the money, and it appears this new tech will snowball alot faster than some people think. Edited February 11, 2014 by JG27_Chivas

Count me in! I can't wait for OR implementation!! Meanwhile I must go back to WT, their implementation is horribly lousy in respect of interface adaption, but once you're in the air, it blows you away.
