Probably due to the fact its almost too transparent and doesn't reflect the light as the real item would.

Absolutely. The material is missing an important phenomenon, namely refraction.

 

If refraction were simulated, you'd see the light change direction at the knob. It would look much more natural.

 

As such parts are rather rare in the game, it's understandable that no such shader has been developed beyond the rain effects.
