realitic saturation + smooth = Stunning!

I talked about this mod earlier in other threads, but cant be praised enough.

Today i had some time to spare and dwelved again into the configurations this mod provides, doing some performance test, changing parameters and judging visual difference to performance impact.

The result is fantastic! This mod comes with a completly customiseable skript, where you can change parameters like, tree detail, forrest distance, clouds and so on.

Since "low" preset gives the best ingame performance, i choose this preset and tweaked all the things that bother me al "low" settings. Biggest is the very small tree rendering distance. i chose the same rendering distance, that "high" perset uses, since its the best compromise on the rift. a value of more than 3 (high preset) dont really improve visulas, due to the screen limitation of the rift but a more demanding (ultra is 5). This combined with "lowres" trees, gives great performance without sacrificing visuals to much.

For the clouds (original purpose of this mod) i choose a value of 64, to me this is good enough.

But, the biggest Jawdropper was after changing the value of saturation. I havend changed this value till today, but i am glad i did. The rifts saturation was always a bit to much, the image a bit to cartoonish for my taste, especially when comparing with the same image on my monitor. As far as i know there is no possibility on the rift side, to change saturation.

I  changed the value from 1 to 0,8 started the game and, oh boy, what a difference! Feels and looks twice as realistic than before. Stunning!

To all pilots that dont have beefed up systems like mine, you can also strife for a nice 90fps expirience, with good visuals. The only things you really have to do, Shadows = low, and use the dynamic resolution depending on your hardware. these two settings have the biggest impact in the graphic settings.

When i had my 4690k and gtx 970 i was also using this mod and settings, and played with 90fps most of the time. the dynamic resolution (old system i had 0,7)only kicked in at very busy scene, like following a desintegratin smoking plane, rest of the time you get the full resolution. i prefer lowered resolution for a few seconds to fps drops and choppy frames (especially in a heated dogfight) .

My tweaked "low" preset:

//******** Preset 0 ************
[preset=0]
//Textures settings
    Filter=3
    texmipdown=1
    land_textures=1

//Quality
    shadows_quality=1
    shadows_dynamic=1,false        //Quality, InGameEnable, Smooth
    reflection=2
    grass_quality=5
    forest_quality=0.8
    landscape_parallax=0
    smooth_effects=false
    clouds_quality=2

//Distance
    objects_distance=0.5
    landscape_mesh_quality=0
    forest_distance=3

//Post effects
    post_effects_enable=true
    post_bloom_enable=true
    post_contrast=true
    post_sharpen=false
    post_drops_enable=false
    post_hdr=3
    post_motion_samples=0;
    saturation=0.8

//Screen depth, SSAO, SSR
    depth_res=1
    ssao_res=-1
    ssao_samples=0
    ssr_samples=0

    clouds_samples=64

    effects_samples=0.5
[end]

Can't use this online unfortunately and with the current state of the AI there's no fun to be had in sp.

Thanks for sharing! I will test your settings.

Oh by the way, I suggest to people having good GPU and lower CPU (mine is GTX 1080 and old I7 3770K) and using this lower preset #0 to set the setting "texmipdown=0" instead of "texmipdown=1". You will have the high res texture of Balanced mode and above without any performance hit (I didn't notice any on my benchmark). Look textures of your plane before and after, far better.

Other difference : I also have "reflection" set to "3". It have a small fps cost as far as I remember (not sure), but really better visually speaking IMO.

the low rest textures was the next thing i was about to "investigate", thanks for the tip!
