kkorn Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Yes, this topic has been the broached more times than a politician's shady past, but as I've yet to find an answer before logging into BoS forums, I thought to give it a go... I want to be able to choose my aircraft, opponent numbers and types, practice TO / Landing, etc, all of which was possible in the Original. However, the Original won't run under Windows 7+. Suggested fixes abound in the websites, but none have shown consistent success, so now that I have BoS and its forums, I'm putting my query to you all. Is there a version of IL2, or a proven way to incorporate the Original? BoS looks awesome, but I want to learn to walk before I run, er, fly...... Thanks for your input! (If this topic already exists in forums, I didn't find it so please forgive if I've missed its coverage elsewhere.)

I got mine from Good Old Games and it just installs and works, no weirdness required. That is on version 4.13, maybe earlier versions or mods have issues?
sevenless Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 IL-2 1946 (steam version) running smooth with Windows 10 here. No problems at all.
Taxman Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 (edited) For the original IL2 I would go to https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php and yes it does run under Win 7. I have all the latest updates and it runs great. However I don't fly it very much because BOX offers so much. There are also some learning guides on the BOX fourms. Good luck Oh I forgot at the sas site there are some good instructions on how to get the original Il2 up and running to the latest versions, and there are several versions available and instructions on how to get your copy of Il2 up and running on Win 7. CanadaOne Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 I think to run IL2-46 on Win 7 you don't install it normally, you just kind of copy the files over into whatever folder and run it from there. I ran Il2-46 like this on Win 7 for years. Maybe someone can say it a little better than I just did.

Just make a folder on what ever drive you want to load it to and name it Il2 Original or what ever. Load the game into that folder and then use the exe. to run the game. 1

kkorn Posted November 5, 2018 Author Posted November 5, 2018 Awesome! My thanks to you all for taking the time to share your knowledge rather than reply "Noob. You didn't research enough." I look forward even more to sharing the game experience with such considerate folks as I've seen in the forums. Now to put your instructions to the test. I'm just glad that I still have a Windows XP PC!
Cloyd Posted May 1, 2023 Posted May 1, 2023 Hundreds of thousands of people have gotten this working. Are you having problems?
MisterSmith Posted May 1, 2023 Posted May 1, 2023 Going to close this. The last post is five years old. It’s the very definition of a necro thread.
