FolkSong Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 I'm looking for a way to start in VR other than having to open Steam, find the game, right click and choose "Launch in VR". For many games it's possible to enter a launch option such as "-vr" to make it always start in VR, then I could just start it from a desktop shortcut. Things I've tried: setting "or_enable=1" in startup.cfg. This gets overridden when starting the game through a Steam shortcut. Starting the game with a shortcut directly to il-2.exe, along with the above cfg setting: This does start the game in VR, but it doesn't recognize content purchased through Steam so it's not viable. If no such launch option exists, is it possible to ask the devs to add one in a future update?
FolkSong Posted November 4, 2018 Author Posted November 4, 2018 I made a little headway into the issue, but it's not promising. I found out you can use task manager to see the launch parameters of a running program. When started in VR, IL-2 shows the parameters "or_enable=1;exclusive=1". Makes sense. However, when started normally it includes the parameter "or_enable=0". This means that there's no way to pass other parameters in through Steam, it creates a syntax error. So I would just like to say AAARRRRGGGG WHY DID YOU DO THIS 777!!!! I think it's impossible to launch from a shortcut unless they change this.
A_radek Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 You did link your accounts? And still? Could have dreamt this but recently someone with the same issue mentioned he returned content bought through steam and bought it again through the il2 site. This would depend on that 4 (?) hour time limit steam has for returning software and if it applies to extra content. I agree however such a launch option would be nice. The alternative of going through a direct exe shortcut necessitates going through the in game login every time.
FolkSong Posted November 5, 2018 Author Posted November 5, 2018 Yes I linked the accounts. But from what I've read, since an update a few months back the linking only goes in one direction. So you can play your content purchased on the website in Steam, but you can't play Steam content if you launch outside of Steam. A refund would have worked but the limit is 2 hours and I'm way beyond that. I also saw that post you're referring to, it wasn't a dream! I would advise others to avoid Steam for this reason though. I only bought through there there because I thought it would make it easier to keep the game up to date, rather than having to update through the launcher.

Panzerlang Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Bin Steam VR and use Open Composite instead, with Oculus Tray Tools to adjust it.

You can't play content purchased in Steam (after last summer or something) unless you launch from Steam. 21 hours ago, Uffz-Prien said: Bin Steam VR and use Open Composite instead, with Oculus Tray Tools to adjust it. I do use OpenComposite, still has to be launched through Steam to see purchased content though.
