Warpig Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 I just moved from a 24" monitor with 1080p/60MHz to 27" monitor with 1440p/165MHz. To my surprise, the 27" wasn't that much bigger than the 24"... I wuold have gone 32", but my desk space is limited, and I might be sitting too close for that big of a monitor. I didn't get a chance to try out IL2 on this setup yet, because my new 2080 card happened to die 1 hour into use! ( a replacement is on the way) Anyways, here's my concern. Is 27" adequate for 1440p on this game for aircraft identification? Or will I suffer a little bit by not having a 32" to increase the pixel size? I'm wondering what others are experiencing in this game with 27" 1440p performance?
Jaws2002 Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 27" is a good size for 1440p resolution. While you may not find the difference in size too striking, the difference in resolution, going from 1080p to 1440p has quite an impact on how the game looks. I use a 27" wide gamut Dell IPS at 1440p resolution for quite a few years and like it. A 32" screen has bigger pixels and may help with spotting planes, but I like how crisp everything looks with the higher pixel density of the 27" screen. I don't have a 32" screen to be able to tell you how they compare. 1
Bullets Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 (edited) with a 27" 1440p monitor you get a bigger size screen while still maintaining a better DPI than a 24" 1080p so it is better both ways! 1080p 24" = 91.79 dpi 1440p 27" = 108.79 dpi so yes spotting would be better because you have more pixels edit: 1440p 32" = 91.79dpi so while you have a much bigger screen yes, the visual quality would be the same as a 24 inch 1080p monitor Edited October 31, 2018 by Bullets 1
Warpig Posted November 2, 2018 Author Posted November 2, 2018 My replacement 2080 has held up, and I gotta say.. I'm loving the new 1440p setup. I like the crispness that this monitor brings. I'm convinced now that 27" was a good choice for me. And I finally get to experience Ultra graphics gaming! I'm happy as hell. Thanks for your inputs.
SAS_Storebror Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 I'm on 27''/1440p myself, using a G-Sync Monitor with an Nvidia GTX 970 card. Works a treat. Not that I could run maxed out settings with it, but then again, it's not just the GPU but also my CPU (i5-2500K) being a limiting factor here. Coming from an old 24'' 1080p Samsung TN screen, the new 27'' 1440p Acer IPS was a real blast. Mike
Warpig Posted November 2, 2018 Author Posted November 2, 2018 I upgraded my MB, CPU, and RAM last year (8700K/32GB 3600MHz RAM), and did the graphics upgrades this year. Worked out nicely since I could never afford all that at once. It took a few years, but I finally have a superb gaming machine, and some great flight hardware to go with it. I should mention the hardware in question of this thread: -AOC Agon AG271QG w/G-Sync, IPS, 165Hz panel. -MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio - Runs whisper quiet, even while running with 144Hz and max settings. (This was in War Thunder with movie settings, I didn't fire up IL-2 yet) I only had one night with this equipment so far, but I would recommend. I will be firing up IL-2 tonight. I can't wait to take in the scenery.

Mike Pretty much same here: Just upgraded old 24'' 1080p lcd to 27'' 1440p Asus G-sync, with TN-Panel though (Tried the IPS version, too, but the notorious backlight bleed was way more that I could handle). And I´ve got GTX 970, too. With the old 24" i could run everything maxed out, but now for example in Kuban mad I have to make compromises, interested where you have cut corners? I already reduced drawing distance to 100 km and shadows to medium, but things could be smoother. But I have to say, spotting is now easier and movement is very lifelike and smooth, TBH i cannot tell the difference in colors between TN and IPS. Edited November 7, 2018 by 6./ZG26_Kuppis
