LA5 8 series speed adjustments

i am new to this aircraft and i am flying mainly intercepts below 3500mt . When engaged in Dogfights with BF109 F4''or G2 's i cant close up to them when they pull away wether in straight line or in defensive circles , I have tried both auto management for the supercharger left shift M on off and manual S key assigned charger assist but thats all i can find  to tweak . reading about its history pilots were very happy with the aircrafts performance and armament . Can anyone pls explain how to go about  getting that little extra speed .

The outlet cowling causes a lot of drag and will slow you down by 40 kph at full open. Keep your oil and inlet cowling fully opento stay cool and keep the outlets as closed as possible. The inlet and oil radiator barely cost you any speed, but you can close the oil if you need a couple kph. Just don’t over heat.

for max speed use full throttle, max rpm and full mixture. Make sure you stay coordinated to reduce drag.

also keep your supercharger in stage 1 below 3500 m. Having it on below that will cost you speed as it takes engine power to run the supercharger. If you go above 3500 you’re going to be completely outclassed anyway.

i got most of this advice from Sheriff’s videos on the la5.cantget the link right now but google Sheriff’s sim shack how to la5. He tells you everything you need to squeeze the most out of the plane. I had it on Berloga today and followed this advice and had no trouble catching axis planes just left the out.et flaps at 20 percent open.

La-5 is faster than both 109 G-2 and F-4 below 1500-ish meters. In a straight line. Keep oil radiator fully or almost fully open, inlet fully open, outlet CLOSED or as closed as possible if you have heat issues. Remember to use max RPM. Boost you can use for 5 min(you need to use it).

Notice that you climb worse than them both - dont try to outclimb a 109! Only follow them in a climb if you know you can shoot within seconds, and only if you know there isnt another one about to bag you!

In my limited time flying the aircraft, I find that tactically it works very much like a MiG-3 (with the bonus that you roll like a demon). You're faster than your opponents at certain altitudes, but 109s will probably beat you in a sustained turn and definitely in a climbing fight. That being said, your medium to high-speed instantaneous turning ability is pretty good (the La-5 is better than the MiG which locks up sooner in this regard). Most of my kills in the La-5 came from surprising 109s who expected to be faster than me, or to outclimb me when I had a lot of excess speed and was able to zoom a bit. Conversely, I got pasted when I tried to turn with 109s for more than a few seconds.

The other thing I learned to watch out for was how quickly a dive put you into the danger zone of max dive speed. Axis planes can definitely out-dive you as they will still be accelerating while you are losing control surfaces!

Instantaneous turn is better than that of 109/190... just don't hold it for too long because sustained turn is far worse.

Energy retention is also better than 109s, but don't go into a fight outright trying to out climb one, you won't... After flying it enough to learn what it can/can't do, you'll see what I mean.

Use the flaps sparingly, they're useless for turning (specifically with the La5), use them as air brakes instead.

Boost is 10min with standard engine, not 5.

Engine/radiator suggestions above are mostly correct, though I like to engage super gear 2 a bit lower, 2800-3000m.

Correct - although with the La5-FN it is a bit different, here you may use them gently for tight turns but not for too long and

with enough height to regain energy after flaps retracted.
