Hi guys,  

can anyone tell me how wide the cockpits of the P-51, P47, P38 and Spitfire were?

They all went from one side of the cockpit to the other side.

 

Sorry, I am in a silly mood being all agog mit der Jug und U2 excitement.

About 2.5 cubits. But based on what pharaoh I do not know.

No exact measurements, but these pictures should give you an idea:

Which one has the best measurements? I don’t know, you tell me.

The width of the cockpit at pilot position and a little forward, from blueprints I get 53.89 inches or 136.9 cm.

This is the external max width of the fuselage at pilot position. I have no dimensions from the interior width of the cockpit.

But you can easily extract on each side 7 to 10 inches between fuselage and lateral instrumentation.

You have also to consider that the fuselage being oval the max width is at  the pelvis when the pilot is seated. 

The width at shoulder height is much less.

I cannot do better that. Hope it helps

I read from A Jug pilot that got a P 51 in the mid of his tour . He said both pits was very spacious and P 51 even had a ashtray
