Very smart move. Looking forward to that.

awesome news. the ROF one was really tough to figure out.

Critical move for the longterm viability of MP.

Please don't expect the same level of detail and complexity that the current ROF ME has. Zak's comments can easily be taken out of context..

As long as there are triggers it's all good.

Yes Triggers are the key to making missions much more interesting.

This is interesting news but - and I'm not really trying to have a pop at Zak here - shouldn't the community manager be talking about this stuff here?  Lately we've been getting more news of discussions the devs are having with the Russian community from =38=Tatarenko ( for which I'm extremely grateful ) than anyone from 1C game studios.

In view of the speculation on the flight model characteristics and current state of development could we have some sort of more direct question and answer session involving Zak and Andrey than the questions for developers thread?

Good news indeed, a mission builder I will be able to understand and use hopefully.

Great news.

Something just a little more advanced than the old IL2 FMB and with triggers would be great!

oh and also....

Branching missions/campaigns depending on success/failure.

Several groups joining in formation easy.

I wonder what the maximum number of planes in a mission will be?  64 Vs 64 in the old IL2 was just never enough... 128 Vs 128 would be nice..

Fighter bombers not dropping their bombs the instant enemy planes are seen ( unless ordered )

Squadron stats carrying over in user made campaigns.

Ability to put pictures, video and music into intros and mission briefings.

The sim will live or die on the number of missions/campaigns built for it and continued addition of fresh content.

Hope Simon ( Extreme One ) will make another intro movie tutorial !!... I've still got the printout for IL2 from who knows how many years ago!

Simon.

Jason

I think what everyone is happy about is hearing that it's simpler and easier to use, much more important then something only a select few understand.

Simpler to use means less functionality.

I'll gladly make that trade if it means it becomes accesible for the majority of users.

Even a 'basic' ME like the IL2 one allowed for a huge variety in MP and SP missions offered, and a constant flow of new content due to the ease at which anyone with an idea could create something cool. That's honestly much more valuable then some super advanced tool only a fraction of the community has interest in/

Alternatively, the complex nature of it allowed Pat Wilson's Campaign Generator to be made.

I don't know if making the simpler ME will neuter the ability to have something as nice as that, but it'd be a shame if that were the case.

If the right layering of complexity is present then it will hopefully be as simple to get up and create a mission from scratch but layered features allow for more complex creations.

Awesome! That's really unexpected.

I do honestly appreciate the appreciation but you'd be AMAZED at the amount of work going on behind the scenes to get parts of the sim ready for general EA. Sometimes new versions are being made daily to fix and test things as we report them. The progress is remarkable.

When there is new news to report I'm sure they'll be here but they really are working flat out at the moment. There is some good stuff coming!

Just to put it into context, as well as anything they produce for EA today, there have been three new testing builds since last Friday. They also need to test the unglamorous stuff like installer routines etc.

They have said February will be a month with a lot of progress and it will be.

Quite frankly both the RoF FMB and the CloD FMB went beyond the "usability threshold" and put  up too high a hurdle for newcomers and people not that at ease with programming languages to make use of them. If the BoS FMB is streamlined, made more accessible and less idiosyncratic (a feeling I got when looking at the RoF FMB all the time) then it's a good idea and I am prepared to trade a few "advanced features" (which would be useful to a very small percentage of mission builders) for accessibility/user-friendliness.

What is needed is a basic/advanced switch in the fmb.

That way all parties can be served.

I found the old IL2 editor more than adequate for creating perfectly viable MP missions. I used it for over a year for the online DiD war I ran.

Made loads of missions with the old IL2 FMB, but Jason's remarks make me think he's trying to let us down gently...

I am really looking forward to checking the QMB out.

Indeed.

I'd settle for BOTH worlds.

Some of the missions planned ( by myself and others ) require perhaps a bit more than the flat IL2 builder, while others are perfectly done with a QMB.

Well, let's all just keep expectations moderate and see what they are able to do. Whatever comes of it, it certainly shows they are reading and taking on comments from the community.

Understood Ian.  Actually, I've just realised that this Sunday night the devs will be in the office at midnight to give us the multiplayer livestream!!

In the meantime I'll look forward to ordering a large takeaway curry in a couple of hours whilst the game updates
