Talisman Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 Hi Folks, Just a quick question. Is it still worth turning off hyperthreading in the bios these days, or is that no longer necessary for better performance? I am hoping to progress to VR soon and am not sure if turning of hyperthreading will help. Thank you in anticipation. From my experience turning the HT off has pros of somewhat lower CPU temperatures and slightly higher IPC. The continuous throughput at full loads may decrease, thought, but considering you have 6 cores and the state of multi-core support is so-so... HT off should be a net gain.
dburne Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 Yeah I still run with HT off also. Always seemed to get smoother results with it off. Could be placebo I guess.
Alonzo Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 I've tested, and I get better IL2 VR performance with HT off on my 8086k. I'm also able to clock the chip higher because the reduced thread count gives more temperature headroom. But "better" is not "lots" -- it's measurably better but you may or may not really feel that in game.
Talisman Posted October 25, 2018 Author Posted October 25, 2018 Thanks for your replies folks. Happy landings, Talisman
