HagarTheHorrible Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 By the time this game launches many of us will have being playing BoS for several months, indeed in many ways playing it while at it's most exciting with new toys to play with on an almost weekly basis. What, if anything, can the Developers do to generate an extra WoW factor buzz of excitement for the launch day amongst this group so that they go out and promote and rave about this product to the great unwashed masses ?
Finkeren Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 The fact that we can shoot down the n00bs who buy on release day in droves in MP?
76SQN-FatherTed Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 The fact that we can shoot down the n00bs who buy on release day in droves in MP? Hmmm...."Buy this game, it's really great. In MP there's a bunch of guys who've got like hundreds of hours experience in it who'll shoot you down before you know what's going on...Hey! Come back..." 3
Finkeren Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Same thing as in Red Orchestra. Didn't scare people away.
I/JG27_Rollo Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 After a mere 1.5 years of development with excellent community involvement, I don't think any additional WOW-effect should be necessary to promote this game. I'll happily recommend this game to anyone interested in flight sims, once it is released and holds up to all (reasonable) expectations.
Georgio Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 If it's as good as it is now at 38% on release, it will sell itself.
TheBlackPenguin Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 (edited) If you're concerned about burn-out you should limit game time even more . But, as others have stated, it will sale itself. Edited February 6, 2014 by TheBlackPenguin
smink1701 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I think what makes a lot of games successful is a great narrative that rewards players with access to the next level, adding options, features, etc. One thing I really liked in MS CFS2 was that you could fly historical missions like Richard Bong shooting down 5 planes. I think BOS will be everything we are hoping for in terms of graphics and performance but it will be SP content and MP that will probably determine it’s overall success … IMHO.

Yes, I hope both single player and multi player missions will be easy to understand. IMO the original IL2 was pretty good in this. But it would be nice to get some playability features that were later added by things like Server Commander. Limiting the number of planes and players, available ammo and mission play time.
FuriousMeow Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 You guys are playing BOS? I've just been testing to help make sure the release is as bug free as possible.
Tektolnes Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Hmmm...."Buy this game, it's really great. In MP there's a bunch of guys who've got like hundreds of hours experience in it who'll shoot you down before you know what's going on...Hey! Come back..." Yep it can be pretty harsh. There's unfortunately no easy way around this. It's the same with every high fidelity combat sim that has a learning curve. If somebody comes bringing serious hours from CloD or DCS they'll be fine. If they're new to CFS in general multiplayer can be a total bastard. It's the community outside of the multiplayer environment that'll make a difference. I think the ATAG community is a good example of helping to make CloD mp a little less harsh to newcomers given that there's some very highly skilled pilots who fly there.
siipperi Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 You guys are playing BOS? I've just been testing to help make sure the release is as bug free as possible. No need to nitpick. With this pace it seems that there won't be any "wow" factor once we get full release version because they drop every feature us to play with. This is pretty much what some companies have been doing for some years now. Release unfinished game as alpha or beta stage and then finish the product with help of the community and don't get bad reviews from it. This is exactly what arma 3 did. They just labeled the game as alpha in the spring when it was supposed to be released and then they fixed bugs and optimized it and finally released full game, which sadly was god awful still without any content. And I'm not comparing bos to arma at any way, just saying that this is pretty much what they are doing in terms of testing. I'm not blaming them because internal testing is much slower than external. Of course bos is not yet ready.
NastyDog Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) The fact that we can shoot down the n00bs who buy on release day in droves in MP? I hope that if we are noobs we still get your respect that we are willing to learn to play this game .so that in future severs stay full and not empty Hmmm...."Buy this game, it's really great.
