hello

I have been advised time and time again to use groups in building missions for various practicle and technical reasons . On my first attempt using a scenery group a train group and a bomber fighter group i was in trouble. I still had not placed the MCU's to form the mission dynamics and objectives . My problem was overlapping of groups and saving the mission at one point or another of work in progress . So my fundamental question is can you move the group icons to the corner of the screen away from the editor mission view ? If the icons cannot be moved to a safe corner then how do you proceed with adding more groups and saving them separately from the mission at hand ?

Select a group, right click the group icon, select "Save Selection to File". Then you can remove that group from the mission if you don't need it connected to any out-of-that-group logic. To get the group back in it's place, select File > Import from File. This will import the group to the location from which you saved it.

I also tend to keep the cities, bridges etc. that are not connected to any mission logic in a single "Scenery" group. That way they are not cluttering the map.

When i place a scenery on a map from my groups i then start placing the active items , aircraft etc .  i can save them as a group if i have'nt ungrouped the scenery placed before hand , if its ungrouped i cannot go around it and save as a group . The only way is not to touch the base scenery when setting up a mission and leave improvements and changes to scenery later on a new map and save a gain to groups . This way i believe i can save an entire mission layout to groups unconnected to any scenery . .i'll give it a try .

Yeah. The only time I touch the base scenery is when I need some buildings etc. to be part of the mission logic. In those cases, I set the scenery group active, select the blocks I need, Save to File, then delete the blocks from the mission. Then I reset the working group, import from file the blocks I deleted, and I have the blocks in their own places ready to be made a part of the mission logic.

Place your "scenery" group on the map.  Now you can do one of two things.  You can set your mission title to working (meaning you are adding objects to the mission, and not the scenery group), or you can set the scenery group to working, meaning anything you add will be in the scenery group.

Place the first two active objects on the map.  Select them both, right click, and group them.  In the group properties window that just popped up, put in a descriptive name.  Set that group to working.  Now anything you add will be in a separate group.  Depending on what you did at first, that group will be inside the mission, or it will be a group nested inside the scenery group.  But either way, when you set the active objects group to working, those are the only objects that will be visible

Placed basic missions objects and saved as group and then set as working and expanded from there and saved as mission works fine . have to be well organized if you are going to have loads of missions and  sceneries .
