My 24 inch 1920x1200 monitor is starting to show streaks of off color pixels as it warms up, so I have ordered a ViewSonic -2K-MHD 32" IPS 1440p LED Monitor as a replacement. My current GPU is a GTX1060 which is supposed to be able to display a 2K WQHD (2560x1440p) resolution.
Are there any benefits in using 4k graphic materials (aircraft skins primarily) with this or any 2K monitor?

Hi

Don't get 4K skins confused with 4K Resolutions. The "4K" in the skins simply refers to the 4096x4096 canvas its been made on as opposed to the 2048x2048 canvas of a 2K skin. This means finer detailing and sharper details in the lines and stencils etc. Once of the nicest effects is the skinners ability to give the panel edges the impression of a fine edge using 3 bands of colour (Black, Dull silver and bright silver) - whilst you can do this also with a 2K skin, the effective narrowing of the lines by a half really give the panel edge a crispness IMHO. Chips and scratches are finer too. But all that pales when compared to a great bump map that catches the subtleties of stressed riveted metal skins as you turn in the sun.

Since in the cockpit all those pixels are blown up in size, the sharpness of a good 4K skins matched up with a good 4K bump map will show through especially on larger aircraft at any resolution.

You always want the 4k skins option in IL2. The only reason you'd skip that is if your graphics card had a small amount of video RAM (because textures are stored there and if you run out of video RAM it'll swap from main memory, making it slower). The 1060 has 6GB video RAM so you should be fine using 4k textures on any game.

I do wish the damage "decals" could get upgraded.  They seem way behind the other art.
