Supernaut Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Hi all, I'm new here and just opened up my new copy of IL2 1946. I played both the original IL2 and Pacific Fighters back in the day when they were new.I understand controller issues are common place with this sim. I have searched Google high and low but have not found a satisfactory answer to my problem.I have a Logitec Extreme 3d Pro joystick that is brand new. Its working fine, its updated, and has been working well in Microsoft Flight Sim X.The short story to my problem is that IL2 will not recognize this joystick at all. It shows in windows just fine. When I go to setup.exe in the IL2 directory it shows up there and can be calibrated and such. I have the joystick box checked on in setup. When in the game the imput function will not recongnize any movement. Under key assignments it will not recongnize the joystick movement or buttons, and yes I actually clicked the box so the dialogue window appears. In my searching some people get the stick to perform some functions, but I am getting nothing at all.One thing that crossed my mind is that in the setup.exe it shows my Logitec joystick and also "Motionjoy virtual stick" which I use to run an original xbox controller on some games. I wonder if that Motionjoy could be an interference, and if there would be a way to make IL2 use only the Logitec.I have IL2 1946 patch 4.08. I have limited bandwidth and will not be able to patch all the way until my girlfriend can go to her parents house to download them.Windows 8 64 bit.
Supernaut Posted February 6, 2014 Author Posted February 6, 2014 It turns out that I did not have my joystick updated. I got the logitec update which included a game profiler. This profiler instantly recognized IL-2 and allows you to set up game controls though the profiler for each specific game. I did this with a grin on my face, started IL-2 through the profile and ALAS.... Bugger all! IL-2 still does not in any way shape or form recognize this stick and I'm not sure I'm an inch closer to success.Through my research apparently each controller has an ID number, and the control needs to be #1 for IL-2 to make use of it. In windows 8 I have no idea how to check what the controller's ID is or how to change it. I'll just have to keep digging. Since I am making no progress with changing ID number I might start pissing around with the config.ini section, under the assumption that windows identifies my stick as #2Thank you for the link to that manual. I have not yet determined if it has been of use.
Emgy Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 if above does not work and you want to look at config files x:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\IL 2 Sturmovik 1946\Users\doe\settings.ini [HotKey move]JoystickDevice0 AXE_Y=elevatorJoystickDevice0 AXE_X=aileronAXE_RY JoystickDevice0=radiatorAXE_RZ JoystickDevice0=rudderAXE_U JoystickDevice0=-zoomAXE_Z JoystickDevice0=-power maybe changing device# helps
Supernaut Posted February 6, 2014 Author Posted February 6, 2014 Hot damn I got it figured. I found some info that IL-2 ID's controllers in order that they are plugged into the computer after start up. It was as simple as unplugging all controls (especially the xbox control), restarting the computer and plugging in the joystick. Now its all working. Thanks all for the help. With that said, is there a way to make the game work in true wide screen? I have the aspect correct but that leaves the black bars on the sides of the screen. Off topic I know.
HippyDruid Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 JoyID's utilities will allow you to change the joyID without the hassle of unplugging everything. Pretty handy. http://www.wingmanteam.com/latest_software/gadgets.htm#JoyIDs_Utility: 2

HippyDruid Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Damn that is handy! Thanks for sharing. You're welcome man! I'm glad someone else finds it useful!
