Nice to see

I've flown ROF for many years so I was naturally delighted with the news about Flying Circus and bought into early access.

I'm sure this can't actually be new specific to FC as ROF claimed to have progressive damage modelling but I observed something today I've never seen before in ROF so perhaps things have been tweaked a little for FC?

I was in a Dr1 and had put only a few rounds into a Spad, but these must have been quite serious as it started spluttering black smoke, however it still seemed to have full control and was using a speed advantage to pull away from me. My pursuit was somewhat fruitless and left me as nothing more than an observer as the distance between us grew. After about 20 seconds this spad caught fire on its own without me or any other plane putting any more rounds into it.  What is more about 8-10 seconds after catching fire there was an almighty explosion that ripped the spad into a cloud of tiny bits of free falling debris... Kind of made me glad I'd spent about half a minute in pursuit without firing a single shot just to get to see that.

In a sim that claims progressive damage modelling it is quite plausible that engine trouble could cause overheating and  possibly cause a fire, and that in turn a fire might lead to the fuel tank exploding, especially if holed. It's just that in the past any flamers I'd seen in ROF were instant, and any progressive damage I'd witnessed only tended to relate to weakened wings eventually failing when pulling tight turns.

Nice to see that this sim can still produce these surprising moments

That is really cool!  I need to go shoot at SPADs now.

It is very reasonable that a fire would develop after some time flying, since a fuel leak can be non combustible at certain airspeed/power settings. Changing either of those can result in a fire breaking out.
