A-20 Auto Rich Mixture

Hey guys,

Question on the A-20 mixture. Is it a bug that the only way to stop the new mixture smoke effect in the A-20 is to run Auto Lean? Even when not in climb mode (and in nominal engine mode) the engines still smoke as if too rich on Auto Rich. P-39 and P-40 only smoke on Auto Rich when in Combat Power.

At this point it seems to me, that the auto-mixture systems set off the smoke effect far too easily. German aircraft seem to be trailing smoke 90% of the time. I love that we have this effect now, but it obviously requires some tweaking.

All automatic mixture settings depend on the power setting for their mixture ratio. Even in „Auto lean“ you will reach a very rich mixture setting, although it will be at a higher power setting than in auto rich.

So on lean I would expect the engine trailing black smoke above 95% whereas on rich, it will be maybe around 90%. But it really depends on the mixture automatic system, manifold pressure as well as on fuel quality.

On average, I find the black engine smoke in game now very convincing and the great give away of your opponents power setting that it actually was.

At least at sea level in autumn Kuban map, the smoke coming out of the A-20 in continuous Auto Rich is very thin, only visible from close distance.

I think it's very well done. A complete oxidation of a rich mixture resulting in yellow-brownish smoke coloured by NOx. Can be seen in the jet-wash by modern jet engines like those in the Tornados, too. Never had the pleasure to observe the exhaust stream of large piston engine from a plane in flight, but that's what came into my mind looking at the thin yellow-brown line behind me in the A-20s gunners position.

The smoke is kinda messed up all over. Spitfire mixture was a simple switch but you can exploit the game "axis" bind and avoid black smoke at WEP with no performance loss by setting 66% in the Mk IX and 47% in the Mk Vb.

That should be a big, fat bug report....

"A big, fat bug report"* - that would make a nice sequel to "My big fat greek wedding".
