=EXPEND=Dendro Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 Hiya Some pics taken by David John Hope shared on Facebook page The Luftwaffe in Colour during WW2. I live not 20 minutes away and was last there when I was a child. I need to go back again. The 262 is evidently the last intact 2-seater night fighter in existence. Someone pointed out that it was a bit crazy to have something like this in South Africa. Not sure how I feel about it but I think it would be safer to be looked after back in Europe. I will go as soon as I can to get some more information and pics. 1
EAF19_Marsh Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 Crikey. I think there is one at an IWM site, but they are very rare. How come it ended up in Cape Town (lovely place, my friend lives there)?

-TBC-AeroAce Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 Cool pics. Lots of SA pilots were in WW2 so no surprise that sombody over there went to the trouble of making a collection, although that 262 is clearly very rare. It would be interesting to know it's story.
Heliopause Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 "After completed trials, Red 8 was shipped to South Africa on 23 February 1947, arriving at Cape Town on 17 March. Amazingly, it survived in storage until the late-1960s when it was taken over by the museum."
