The "Kommodore's" plane. January 08th, 1942.

Note the hawk head painting and the rather crude brush-applied winter camo.

The writing above the exhaust: "Vertrau nur deinem eig'nen Blick!" means "Only trust your own eyes".

Escorting a Ju-52 out of the danger zone, Maloyaroslavetc, January 08th 1942. The second 109 taking off is barely visible behind the huge propwash caused by

the "Rote 6". Only a few minutes after this shot was taken the Junkers transport got attacked by Russian fighters, damaging the plane.

Although it made it to it's destination the top gunner was heavily wounded by shrapnel and had to bail out to be rescued.
